Physical Body Value

On June 18th, 2022, I woke up early in the morning at 3:30am to practice breath infusion and meditation. Immediately upon arising, I recalled some of the astral activities that my subtle body engaged in, whilst my physical body was asleep. One notable event was that I approached my teacher, Yogi Madhvacharya, and inquired about becoming a spiritual master. He discouraged the idea, and notified me that I still have many negative tendencies that I have to address. Which would indicate that I would be a fool to pursue this interest ingrained in my kundalini, rather than doing the necessary work to clean up my psyche. Upon remembering what had transpired, I became enraged and disappointed in my actions. I felt that it was an affront to approach my teacher in that manner. I began to mentally criticize myself, and question the value of restraining the physical body, since my subtle body continuously acts in a contrary manner. Nevertheless, I proceeded to practice breath infusion, with the intellect unceasingly producing thoughts regarding the question. When I sat to meditate, my teacher inspired the answers which my intellect interpreted as follows:

“The value of the physical body is that it gives one the ability to have some sort of discrimination. One’s psyche may express a certain desire, or one’s intellect may produce certain thoughts about acting unfavorably. Yet the physical body may provide one with the ability to resist or refrain from an action that is otherwise detrimental to the coreself. In other words, there’s an expressed desire in the psyche to engage sexually with a particular person. However, one may not be able to fulfill that desire due to physical obstacles such as proximity to said person. A next example may be a desire to live in a wealthy environment. In this case, the laws governing the physical body and the rules/moral standards of the society in which it exists may prevent one from fulfilling this desire. Hence, if the facilities aren’t provided by nature, such desires may not be fulfilled.”

“Essentially, the actions of the physical body may provide one with the false idea that one is reformed or making progress in reformation. But the main issue is exposure. If one is exposed or nature facilitates the fulfillment of certain desires, then one may indulge. Do not allow the actions of the physical body to deceive you. Pay attention to the subtle body, develop interest in the subtle body, transfer focus to the subtle body and reform the subtle body. The subtle body is the issue. It is the true reflection of the issues within the psyche. The physical body only provides the discrimination to reform the suble body. That is its value!! Reformation of the subtle body!!”

    • Nice, but Michael Beloved how do you reform the subtle body?

Breath infusion has its limitation because every time we drop down to lower dimensions we get back to the same habits. Some habits can be frozen but not sure if they can be eliminated.

      1. Who owns the physical & subtle body?
      2. Is a complete reformation of the subtle body a non-pragmatic goal?
      3. Should we go beyond the subtle body and leave it behind if given a chance?

        Go beyond the subtle body?

This sounds like Buddhism to me. Or perhaps advaita vedanta. Check the Pali canons for a method. For inSelf Yoga it is sufficient if anyone could remain on the astral levels, the favorable ones, and not have to be physical ever again. Doing anything beyond that is fantastic. Who knows if it is practical?

Testing to see if one can live only on the astral levels is easy because one access those subtle places in dream experiences and one can test oneself to see if one would be satisfied living there forever and would not need the fulfillments one gets from physical reality.

      • Very clear answer, thanks.
