Meditation during Breath infusion (pranayama)

Yogesh gave the instruction that during breath infusion practice using kapalabhati/bhastrika, the yogi should meditate frequently when at any time during the session there are altered states of consciousness, bliss bursts, kundalini darts, teacher appearances on the subtle planes and any other transcendence experience.

This means that if a session of breath infusion would be for thirty (30) minutes, and during that session there would be transcendence for fifteen (15) minutes, then that practice would last for forty-five (45) minutes. Thereafter the yogi would do the regular meditation session which follows the breath infusion practice.

Yogesh stated, that initially when a yogi does pranayama breath infusion, the purpose of the practice is to generate energy and to use that generated pranic force to strike and motivate kundalini to move through the spine into the head. However, when sushumna nadi central spinal passage is sufficiently cleared, the yogi experiences clearance in the psyche where polluted energy no longer lingers here and there. At that stage the purpose of doing pranayama is to experience sublime states and to begin to chart the various higher astral territories which the subtle body may transit to during the practice and later after the death of the physical body.

There is another notation which he gave:

Memory cannot be eliminated. It should be influenced by the yogi so that the psyche (mind) becomes interested in retaining the sublime experiences and the abstract dimensions, such that during the meditation which follow, the yogi can remember and re-experience the sublime states which he had during breath infusion practice.

We do strive to remember positive and endearing experiences. This same effort should be applied to the sublime transcendental states where we can remember these and not recall the lower lifestyle which the mind impulsively rehashes.

    • Greatly and entirely practical! Very much appreciated!

Dean's question:Thanks for sharing this. I have noticed this happening in my practice recently that the psyche is excited to reach these higher levels and the memories of my previous sessions floating around in the subtle head as I am infusing breath in current session. How should we interact with those memories as they arise?

        • How should we interact with those memories as they arise?

That question is motivated by the old system of regurgitating fond memories in the mind from physical incidences. For instance, if I felt happy some day at the beach or at the night club and then later, I remember the incidence and rehashed it over and over, with ever repeat giving me pleasure.

But this means that the mind is designed to do this with physical incidences. If this does not occur on the spur with astral incidences or with certain types of astral incidences, it means that special efforts must be made to make that happen and to make the psyche switch its focus into regarding those desired astral scenes as essential to the self in contrasted to the nature given process where the physical reality and related astral incidences are the priority for memory storage and memory reinforcement in the mind.

It starts with becoming sensitive to the natural method of recovering and regurgitating physical memories and the related astral scenes. When these arise, the yogi should stop them from being repeated. He should give a no-repeat order to the mind and be sure that the mind complies with that and does not ignore that. Over time of doing this the mind will begin to fill in its need to rehash with the subtle and super-subtle events.

This is part of the gradual transfer from physical to spiritual but taking it a step at a time, going from physical to astral, from astral to super-astral, from super-astral to spiritual. Instead of being idealistic and planning to move from physical to spiritual.

The physical incidences and the astral ones which are supportive of that should be diminished. The memories of these which arise should be squashed. Then over time the shift will begin to happen. This is even true for departed souls who left the last body without cultivating astral events memories which are not related to physical interest. At the end of the day, the physically related interest must be confronted boldly in the mind and their memory value reduced to nil. The effort is real. It is a struggle within the psyche to achieve this.

Dean's question: Please explain differences between astral, super-astral and spiritual? Are these separate locations or deeper existences within the same location?

            • Dean's question: Please explain differences between astral, super-astral and spiritual? Are these separate locations or deeper existences within the same location?

These are separate locations or deeper existences which are accessed from the same location, which is the subtle body. Even though the subtle body is using a low frequency usually, it is still the place from which to make the leap to higher dimensions. As it is now, we have no other place from which to act.

There are several astral planes beginning with the one which is adjacent to this physical world. When we meet deceased people in dreams and when we meet living persons in dreams, usually, that is the lowest of the astral planes.

Higher astral places are there. That is where we meet people who are not interested in physical existence. Higher than that is the super-astral places which in reference to what we experience now is heaven.

However, beyond that is a place where there is no subtle body like the ones, we use now, but where there is existence and where the self itself is the body, rather than the self using a body as we do now.

Consider if your personality itself was a body instead of your personality using a body to express itself. Like for instance if you take birth as a puppy. It will still be the same personality but it will be constrained by that canine form. But if the personality itself was a body, then there would be no need for a physical or other subtle body. That would be a spiritual form.

            • Michael Beloved  Understood. Thank you.

              • Thank you for the very in-depth discussion.

                From Michael's reply:

The following is a reaction to reading the highlighted part of Michael's paragraph:

It would also be the case that more advanced beings assume such other forms, but because they have realized the self, they maintain their personality along with the awareness of their current restraints. They later can also recall those births. That is a bit like awareness of oneself in subtle experiences of different frequencies.
