Yogi Bhajan: some history

I received the blogs that follow below from a long-time friend with whom I have attended Solstice celebrations at 3HO encampments. The blogs recount some 3HO history and some imperfections attributed to Yogi Bhajan. It might be interesting reading to Kundalini yogis.

I responded as follows to my friend:

I watched it. Sounds like Yogi Bhajan might have joined the ranks of the idols with feet of clay: Baker Roshi, Andrew Cohen, Chogyam Trungpa, Amrit Desai, Carlos Casenada, Eido Shimano, Allan Watts and God know how many others, even old Solomon himself. Power corrupts. Rare is the soul who can resist the pull of the ego toward gratification of desire. After seeing the luxury of his home in Espanola, it was pretty clear that he didn’t live under a burden of great austerities. But I wasn’t concerned enough to think about ways that he strayed from the constraints that people assume gurus to have on them. It didn’t matter to me. What he got started in the U.S. seems to me that it would be judged a positive effort. I know that it was for me and I benefited from the small exposure I had to him and his legacy. I thank you for connecting me with the solstice  gatherings. Maybe I’ll go again one day if Kali allows it to subside.

It’s not up to me to judge the great yogi. There are forces with far better judging perspective than any I might bring to bear.

    • Thanks for posting, Tejas Yogi (Tobe Terrell).

The part which is missing in the Part 1, is the explanation of kundalini yoga as to if it is a valid practice and regarding if Yogi Bhajan taught a valid or invalid method for it.

      • Thank you for the post:

        Quote from the post:

"Power corrupts. Rare is the soul who can resist the pull of the ego toward gratification of desire."

        This is so true!!!

And, like Michelle Obama said: "Power reveals".

I consider power, fame, beauty, and such attributes as neutral trinkets. However, they are of utmost significance, because they act as gauging factors of the personal degree of self-victimization, from the ones upon whom they are bestowed to the ones drawn to those persons for attractiveness the displays afford them.

I am in a similar position regarding the attributes as the one who possesses them, they are equally disposed to test both of us. And, without fate's blessing with access to the attribute(s), the fact that one is not tested doesn't imply that one will pass a test.

Passing a test generally means the opportunity to take it. These attributes are generally made available to human beings because the challenge matters equally to all of us. Although we may make our minds regarding certain personalities and their position, providence has its own reason and considerations.
