We're building a dystopia just to make people click on ads

We're building an artificial intelligence-powered dystopia, one click at a time, says techno-sociologist Zeynep Tufekci. In an eye-opening talk, she details how the same algorithms companies like Facebook, Google and Amazon use to get you to click on ads are also used to organize your access to political and social information. And the machines aren't even the real threat. What we need to understand is how the powerful might use AI to control us -- and what we can do in response.

    • This situation was set in motion by our very nature, particularly as we live in modern societies.

Mercantilism, commercialism, and the economy of desires meant that societies were bound to willingly and gleefully trot into a cyberspace like flocks of sheeps, where they are exposed, vulnerable and ready to be exploited.

The elite has always depended on the sweat and blood of the masses, who are sitting ducks ready to be plucked. AI's Algorithms are just another tools for organizing and harnessing like others we have lived through our evolutions as a species.

Overall, the fusion of human lives into AI this early in our evolution clearly indicates a  progressive transference of human psychological content into cyberspace. Our psychologies or subtle expressions were always there, but they are now being organized, inventoried and classified within the machine capabilities, this is progress. Yet, the ultimate advancement comes from within, as the psyche is accessed and dealt with individually and personally.

As the dinosaurs were phased out and are now for many of them in existence within another dimensional realm, many using a human form may not be adaptable to existence that is thoroughly integrated into AI modalities. It is typical for sheep to hurriedly follow one another into the abyss.

Note: I expressed a reaction "off the cuff" since I only listened to a negligible portion of the TED Talk.
