Video / Wild Africa Today

    • These folks aren’t wide really. They have a trade that they kept in the family going on generations. It is definitely extreme. The street fights sure can use some improvements, as is normally case with street fights. The area boys is just an organized crime group, they are an equal opportunity gang.

Today there are more (African) big cats (cheetahs, tigers, Lyons ...) in captivity than in the wild! They are taken away by poachers as tiny infants and sold for profit to rich people abroad. Hyenas are not wanted for those illegal trades. They are also remarkable in their own ways.

I find the documentary to be a powerful display of courage, therefore the attention and impression of the crowds. Hyenas are die-hard wild, and not easily domesticated. A very nice documentary IMO.

However, I find the tone of the commentaries for the most part ignorant, condescending and so Eurocentrically biased. They say gang, this isn’t a gang just because they are Black males. It is a family trade, they investigated and were told the full story, yet their perspective remained unashamedly distorted and inequitable.

It made this otherwise interesting video and authentic content into a painful curiosity experience. And, to say that “these people’s lifestyle is universally condemned in the West” is rubbish. Hunting is not universally condemned nor are hyenas considered an endangered species at all!

They are killed in a persecutory way for coming after livestock. The comments sound sophisticated and all, but saying some stupid stuff. Anyways, they many times were bad distractions from the content, and I don’t think they will improve.

There have been outcries recently over numerous death of racing horses, and possible overdosing them with steroidal drugs. There is also the practice of bullfights, yes dog fights are many times practiced by gangsters. And living with snakes is practiced in other places such as India.

Different from that family-run circus/ freak show, here are other cohabitations with hyenas:

Planning on posting this under the video on YouTube comment section.
