Theatre in the Mind
In meditation, one should study the mental function which is experienced as a theatre in the mind. In that place various images flash. Some movies are played. That is a psychic place, a location. It is not an imagined place. What happens there may or may not be categorized as imagination, but the location is a factual site where events transpire.
Aside from the images and movies which flash there, memories appear there with or without their corresponding markings, which identify their original situations. In addition, it has a switching mechanism, which runs automatically with or without the permission of the viewer. That mechanism makes the coreSelf to be subjected to reported sensual data which one or more than one of the senses, collect and display.
These are five sensual operations which occur outside that location. These are viewing a format, hearing a sound, smelling an aroma, feeling a surface, and tasting a flavor. In meditation the most frequent ones are viewing and hearing.
Sometimes in mediation, one realizes that one hears an inner sound. Or one may hear an outer physical sound. One may see an inner light which has no physical source.
This involves the theatre in the mind. A yogi should know this place. During meditation, he/she should catalog its activities. He/She should know precisely how it operates. Its influence should be understood. Its subtle operations should be known.
