Most of the technilogical advancement occured because of enemy paranoia. Then later it is adapted to civilian use for the purpose of getting the producers rich.

Surival is so essential a part of this creation, that human ingenuity works at its best, mostly when a human being is set to the primal task of defending himself or herself.
