Subtle Body Youth Obsession
The subtle body has some obsession with the peak of youth in a material body. This craving drives the need to reincarnate again in physical creature forms such that as soon as one takes an infant form, one subconsciously wishes for it to mature as an adult youthful one. As soon as that body matures and begins to deteriorate, one laments the regression.
Once when I visited a relative who was in a bad way in a hospital because of an elderly body affliction, another relative make a remark about my elderly body. He said, “You appear to be bright and heartily like a youthful body. How is this so? It seems to me that since I saw you last, you have not aged.”
My reply to him was:
“It is not how the body looks externally but how it feels on the inside. You can rest assured that time aged the organs of the body.”
I was not trying to divert him from being disturbed by my apparently healthy body. It is a fact that for every creature, human or otherwise, the advance of time takes its toll evenly, even though some of us have self-destructive habits which accelerate the aging process.
The focus on the peak of youth in a material body is one of the attitudes which we have which reinforces the subtle body’s need for physical forms. This is an involuntary focus which a yogi should erase from the psyche.
