Salt Addiction

One of the more difficult habits to give up is using marijuana or similar substance, but there are other simple substances of diet which we are addicted to as well.

Recently I mistakenly got twice the amount of salt in a meal which I cooked. The result was that the first half of solid waste evacuated had dried out in the colon. Believe it or not salt is used as a laxative when people drink salt water because the stomach is fooled into thinking that salt water is not water and allows most of it to pass into the intestines where it serves to lose cramped solid waste.

But when salt is eaten in meals, it serve the opposite purpose where the intestines and particularly the colon cells get crazy over it and try to suck it out of the solid waste which makes for a very hard stool to be discharged from the body.

Salt is an addictive substance. In modern times practically all human beings are addicted to salt. This is because of availability. In some regions of the world like say four hundred years ago some people who lived way  inland and in areas where salt was not a natural mineral, did not even have any idea about eating salt. Nowadays because of distribution by gas powered vehicles, salt is available everywhere and subsequently nearly every one of us is a salt addict.

When I ask students to use use the tip of a tea spoon of salt per day, some of them smile at me with that questionable look of: “I am not going to say yes to that but I cannot say no either. Let us just leave that one aside.”

One afternoon recently some persons invited me to a popcorn eat. Circumstantially I obliged. I had a small bowl of it. In eating that, I realized that I ate enough salt of what I would use in four days. Why are people eating so much salt?

Simple:

It is addictive!
