Opportunity Appreciation
In an astral conversation, Srila Yogeshwarananda instructed that I should give this alert about opportunity appreciation. His idea is that unless a yogi is satisfied with both appointment and disappointment while living in material body, that person will not be able to resist rebirth once the physical body dies.
This is because the subtle body will retain the need for physical involvement and will, regardless of wishes and desires, seek out a new embryo as soon as one is deceased. The only way to participate in physical history for fulfillment of unfulfilled desires which linger in the psyche, is to take another body once you become deceased. Realize that the material body is simply a manifestation of subtle desires. It is a play-out of what was an impulsive motivation in the subtle form.
Some deceased persons postpone the issue of taking rebirth by influencing others who are physically alive, to do their bidding. Like for example, gurus, spiritual masters, charismatic politicians, who from the hereafter influence physical people to push on their agendas and live out their desires. However ancestors, ordinary departed should do the same thing on a small scale. In fact in every species these hereafter influences prevail. But sooner or later such deceased persons take birth on the basis of the desire to make a physical impact.

In an astral conversation Srila Yogesh said this:
Some student yogis who are deceased, come to me with this request:
“Guruji, I do not want to take another body. It seems to me that to do so would be a self-inflicted injury. In my past life, I was unable to control the historic circumstances. I am determined never to take another material body. Please show me the way.”
However it is not that simple. It is not just a matter of desire of the student and teacher. It hinges on what is in the psyche in terms of unfulfilled desires. Answer this question:
Do you have any desire for physical reality, to be part of it, to participate in it, to get pleasures from it?
While using a physical body can you say for sure that you could be satisfied without participating in physical history and getting the fulfilments which one can get only through a material body?
The ascetics who are serious. Those who master the ashtanga yoga process described by Patanjali, should wake up to how the psychic material nature will pivot them for their wishes or against the same, according to how it is configured on the basis of how they handle the opportunities which nature provides during the lifetime
What was the attitude of the ascetic?
Was he taking advantage of all experiences (bhogas) nature offered?
Dis he try to escape from some, to avoid some?
Did he crave or cling to the pleasurable ones?
The yogi who appreciated the appointments and disappointments just the same, is the one who developed a mature psyche which has the right attitude towards material nature and which it might very well facilitate so that he does not have to take physical rebirth. Otherwise I do not see how I can bless that person and cause his resistance to rebirth to be effective.
Evolution means the fulfilment of desires but every stage of impact of a desire is an experience to be appreciated. One should not think that success of a desire is fulfilment. And then think that failure of a desire has no satisfaction. It is all satisfying. It is all experience and evolutional display. The success should be appreciated. The failure should be relished as well. Then and only then will one’s subtle body shed the need for the physical history.

Thought came to my mind to frame the article and hang it to the wall.
Thought also came to the mind as I drove yesterday at around 6 pm and was listening to some ambient melodic vibrations, to observe how the self is isolated while that enjoyment or victimization was going on. I had to also accept to myself how the sensuality of vibrational melodies soothes some sentimental frustrations I am facing. Then, for a moment I tried to think about the idea of existing in total isolation from these senses, being just the self with no more access to these enjoyments.
And, the monkey brain took me to think about the importance of the circumstances I face, as far as understanding and evolving, in realization and relationship with material nature. I thought that it seemed ironic that intense frustrations of the most basic desires or instincts can also be most successful evolutionary experiences.
So, the position of the yogi hinges on accessible opportunities in addition to realized evolutionary success typically based on frustrated desired of accessed opportunities, or restraint from accessing them. The complete lack of such opportunities negates this acid test, the study of the outcomes of which can provide the means to observe the current evolutionary status.
Especially when these opportunities are being exquisitely frustrated I try to accept that my non-participation or inexistence really doesn’t change the course of the universe. Accepting this powerlessness feels like impotence, it is very hard to accept that based on my (male) ego, traditions, conditioning tied to class consciousness and sense of identity, etc…
However, one occasion at a time I can feel a great sense of relief from not feeling like I need to bear the weight of the world and the infinite dramas of its history. Any and all such events used to be inevitably crushing, more and more I am able to snap out and do some self reasoning, but only after the initial blow and internal mayhem.
Through these fortunes interpreted as frustrations I see an evolutionary position shaped in the subtle system and then manifesting in the physical. Therefore I need to look beyond the physical reality in order to successfully address the performance and its implications or the lack of them; this reality is only a medium, a means of acting or venting out the subtle contents. There will be new crop compulsively coming out of the soil for harvesting only because seeds have been planted in the fertile medium.

The material situation that we are afraid of is really something psychic. The physical part of it is a joke. It is really nothing to worry about. It is the psychic part that is frightening. Right now we have a big mouth because we are hiding from the terror of the psychic material nature but soon this physical hiding place will not be available and we will have to face the music of getting shut out of this security of gross matter. Those idiots who call themselves transcendentalists and who pretend that material nature is not a terror to them, may keep on charade until they are evacuated from this physical shelter.
