Observing Social Duties and Reducing Social Interactions

For the purpose of yoga, one should simultaneously reduce social interactions and also observe mandatory social duties. This sounds contradictory but it is required for anyone who is serious about attaining liberation from physical existence.

If one avoids all social duties, one has to be careful that his lack of involvement does not cause one to become more involved in the present or future. The first thing is to reduce social interaction. This is done by remaining isolated as much as possible but by doing so whereby others do not realize that one has reduced one’s interaction.

The reason for this is that if someone knows that one is reducing social involvement, that person may take steps to get one more involved. One should quietly reduce social interaction.

While doing so one should selectively complete social obligations but in such a way as to not cause the interactions to increase. It is not the people who want a yogi to remain hogtied to social interaction. The threat comes from Nature (prakriti) which hunts down a yogi because it regards him as a criminal who should remain in confinement.

One must recognize Nature’s authority and work with it to pay off accounts from past lives but one should not do any deals with Nature to increase those accounts. This means hiding and realizing that Nature has the upper hand. Never mind God. God is there but God is not a threat. The most God can do is to explain how a yogi can act to reduce his account with Nature. But the idea that God will cancel or pay off the account is nonsense. The entity himself/herself must pay off the account but he should take God’s advice in how to do so.

    • Quoting from above (§4 - 1st sentence):

« While doing so one should selectively complete social obligations but in such a way as to not cause the interactions to increase. »

I agree of course with everything mentioned. But from this sentence, I want to highlight the fact that getting a sense of what should be one’s involvement can be a very personal and minutions exercise. The devil is in the details!

In my opinion and experience, with sufficient sensitivity one can get a sense what things if not tended to will disturb one’s introspection. IMO, this will carry into the hereafter as a simple matter of continuity.

I am not referring to righteous acts, «dharmic», much less karmic ones, in a general way, but rather the personal minutia that applies to one’s personal and individual circumstance. I think this is a very important aspect.

One will have to answer to one’s consciousness not answer per what for instance a guru says is the right thing, over and over that has proven to be deceitful. Not that guru’s guidance is not paramount, as guru has insight beyond one’s subtle blindfolds, but that some instructions deserve closer look and consideration, not blind faith.

Guru just like a parent may be hold liable in the so called end, but oneself, just any child will primarily suffer the consequences of any parental misguidance.

So hopefully one may tread carefully, in all things activities. In the line of enjoying the fruits in the tree, the coreself is for all practical matters reduced to being subjugated to the sum total of activities that are undertaken, and so ultimately, allocation of energy.
