Mind Sabotages Meditation
Instead of glamorizing the mind for its willingness to meditate, it is best to own up to the fact that the mind which is used for meditation is itself against thought-less meditative states. These thoughtless states are the foundation of an advanced meditation practice.
There are many supports which are used by people who attempt meditation but few realize that any support, any, is an admittance that the mind is intrinsically resistant. Thoughtlessness, lack of ideation, lack of memory images is just not what the mind desires except when it enters drowsy states. Before sleep the mind abandons memories even if they occur in it. It simply does not grasp them and allows them to fizz out. At other times however the mind is every occupied generating ideas which are based on memories or which are fresh constructions.
Visualizations, mantras, aphorisms, breath-tracking, thought-observation, are props used by someone who simply cannot meditate with a blank mind because the mind just does not permit the person to do so. These aids are part of the evidence about the nature of the mind as a humbug compartment which harasses the observing self.
During meditation even if the person discovers itself in a thoughtless state, that condition does not last for long as the mind will soon recall memories which it indulges in. Sadly the mind hardly retains memories of abstract meditative states or of neutral bliss energy transcendence states.
Why is the mind unable to retain higher experiences?
Why does the mind automatically retain and repeatedly hash over lower experiences?
