Meditation: Where to Begin
Where does my meditation usually begin?
Does it begin in the same state of mind when I am in conflict with someone else?
Does it matter?
Recently, I observed that the beginning point of meditation, the initial state of mind when I sit to meditate and do internalize, may be different for different sessions. When I am in a place where I am not in association with others, or with just one or two persons who do not make demands and do not apply social relationship pressures, my meditation is more consistent and begins in the same mento-emotional state or begins where the last meditation session was terminated. This also applies to being isolated physically from demanding folks but being psychically near to such people. That psychic proximity trashes meditation.
A great starting point for meditation is to find the self to be absorbed in or merged in if you like, the naad sound resonance. This is great if you find yourself to be in naad immediately as you sit to meditate.
Another great starting point is if you find yourself to be focusing on the core-self as soon as you sit to meditate, and if while doing that you have no perception of thoughts or images.
Another great starting point is if you find yourself to be in an energy flow which is sublime or blissful.
And there are many other great starting pints for meditation too numerous to mention.
BUT WHAT IF
You begin meditation in a cloud of thought energy saturated on all sides with thoughts and images about a disagreement you had with someone who is near and dear to you.
What if you began meditation with a political idea or some advocacy event like global warming, organic food, gay rights or legalization of marijuana? Would that be a good starting pint for meditation?
What if when you found yourself in such state of mind you meditation session was already going on for five or fifteen minutes.
When you realized this what did you do?
Did you switch to a preferred starting point?
Were you able to transfer out of the mental chaos or disagreeable energy?
Really, tell us honestly about it.
Perhaps you are such a great meditator that if you find yourself in a bad way after fifteen minutes of meditation, you can immediately switch to the preferred state because of course, you can control yourself and you will not be undone by undesirable state of mind.
