Meditation ~ Lack of Focus

Lack of focus during meditation is natural. Due to the design of the mind and the interactions of the adjuncts within in, shifting from one idea to the next is the natural behavior of the mind. It is, however, unsuitable for the meditation practice which was described by Patanjali Mahayogin.

The energy used for focusing in mediation as well as the energy through which the focusing power transfers, is itself self-destructive towards meditative focus. This energy is pre-charged, preconditioned and pre-directed. Usually, it is infused with impetus which does not support meditative focus.

Thoughts and psychological actions which occurred before the meditation, do their part to surcharge the energy so that the focus when applied is attracted to the surcharged energy and has a tendency to fulfill the impetus of that energy, leaving aside the meditative focus.

The meditation needs may be met but momentarily only, not for long, as the focus is attracted to the energy which was charged by previous thoughts and feelings. Thus there is a constant struggle in mediation to keep the focus. At least his meditator finds that he or she is diverted and must reestablish the desired focus again and again, as the diversion is repeated again and again.

Generally the meditator does not begin with a neutral energy but with a recharged energy which has within it the impetus to configure other plans based on what occurred before.

Doing pranayama breath infusion helps the yogi considerably and so does changes in lifestyle and isolation from counterproductive associations.
