Krishna: Brilliant Consciousness

 There is an enlightening verse in the Gita which is worded like this (my translation):

yo = yaḥ — who; 'ntaḥsukho = antahsukhaḥ — he who is happy within; 'ntarārāmas = antarārāmas — he who is spiritually delighted; tathāntarjyotir (tathāntarjyotiḥ) = tathā — as a result + antarjyotiḥ — he who has brilliant consciousness within; eva — indeed; yaḥ — who; sa = saḥ — he; yogī — yogi; brahmanirvāṇaṁ — stoppage of disturbing sensuality and attainment of constant spirituality; brahmabhūto = brahmabhūtaḥ — absorption on the spiritual plane; 'dhigacchati = adhigacchati — he attains

The person who is happy within, who is spiritually delighted and as a result, experiences the brilliant consciousness, he, that yogi, experiences the stoppage of disturbing sensuality and attains constant spirituality in absorption on the spiritual plane.  (5.24)

Antarjyoti, the brilliant consciousness within the psyche, has little or nothing to do with the physical appearance of the person. Suppose the yogi is well-dressed, clean-shaven, well-marked with religious clay or some other substance, suppose he has an impeccable reputation, suppose he is morally upright, does that mean that he is in the brilliant consciousness?

It does not indicate in any way that he has that.

Suppose otherwise, the yogi is dressed like a pauper in raggy clothing, suppose he has the worse reputation, suppose he is known to be morally deviant, does that mean that he does not have the brilliant consciousness?

It does not in any way indicate the absence of that. That is not the way to judge which yogi has the brilliant consciousness. Physical characteristics and moral compliance are not the way to rate a person who has or who developed the inner insight consciousness. Its application is not culturally or corporeally based.
