Is matter eternal?
Right now the evidence from Science is that matter is eternal, at least relatively so. See the report below about the study of electron decay. Some parts of the report are complicated but some parts can be understood. If the electron will hold its charge for 66,000 yottayears (6.6 × 1028 yr), then for all practical purposes it is eternal. Our interest in science has to do with its verification or denial of whatever we read in books like Bhagavad Gita. In the Gita, matter is portrayed as being eternal but non-eternal in its manifested stage which is the stage which we observe with our present senses.
There is a condition of matter which is known as para-prakriti. There is another condition which is known as pradhana. And there is the causal level of matter. In inSelf Yoga, the advanced students are required to check into these stages of matter to understand their influence and to divine the possibility of escaping from their grasp.
We are not against science. Our concern is not to ridicule scientists every step of the way. Whatever they can do which can help us to understand our predicament is appreciated by us. Those who follow spiritual masters who ridicule and deny the achievements of science have nothing to do with this inSelf Yoga.
The psychic material nature is so subtle in some of its phases, that from where we are perspectived right now, it is spiritual. Therefore we cannot follow those spiritual masters who think that the subtle matter is not worth the investigation. As far as I am concerned these teachers are either total idiots or they just do not experience the abstract states of matter in their meditations and so they do not have any experience which would show them their fallacies. This is a sign of massive ignorance not transcendental knowledge.
A house parrot can repeat the statement: WITH WINGS WE FLY! WITH WINGS WE FLY! for millions of years and yet it will never fly like a free bird. Why?
Because it eats too much and that prevents it from actually flying. It is left with belief only. It is left with a partial truth which it will never experience.
The whole mantra it should be repeating is this: WHEN WE CEASE EATING, THE DAY MIGHT COME WHEN WITH WINGS WE FLY.
