Heavenly Food

I once asked a priest about the kind of food which would be served in heaven. This is the Christian heaven. Every religious group has its expected lifestyle for its supposed heaven for the faithful hereafter. The Vikings proposed Valhalla, a palace where deceased warriors would feast on roast boar in Asgard, a suitable heaven hereafter.

What is the diet in the heaven which you expect to find yourself in after death?

Of course if you do not believe in heaven, if you think it is phantasmagoria, then this question is absurd. But for those who do, what is expected?

While doing pranayama breath-infusion, one may have experiences of the subtle body where it is saturated or partially-saturated with bliss feelings in all or part of it. These feelings will vary from time, from a neutral type to a very intense one. It could be colorful of varying hues.

A yogi may be inspired to know which of these feelings will be felt in what level of the subtle body hereafter. In one experience, I was inspired to know that the bliss feelings felt were like the normal feelings of a body in the Swarga angelic paradise world, known as Indraloka. These feelings occurred in the inner arms and chest. In the chest these were like two three inch diameter powderpuffs of translucent and cloudy light with mini waves of bliss pleasure surging silently. The zone of it was fully saturated but it had no intense or passionate flavor to it.

In the Swarga angelic world, the astral body used there feels like this for the time one is there, for hours, days or years according to the time one is permitted. The value of yoga practice in which one can realize various levels of the subtle body, is that one can, before the time of death of the physical system, know intimately the kind of existence which the higher realms afford. In that way one can be more selective regarding where one may go hereafter. Of course it is more than selection and wishful thinking. One has to qualify to be in a heavenly world.

The status of feelings in the physical body we currently use, is based mostly on its diet. If it stops eating it will die. If it keeps eating it may live but with dependence on the type of food it ingest for development of feelings.

What then is the food in heaven?

From the Puranas we get the idea that in the Swarga heavenly world, people take a beverage called Amrita. This is translated in English as nectar. By eating that they have certain bliss feelings continuously in the subtle bodies. However a yogi may experience those feelings merely by doing breath-infusion in various asana postures.
