Divine Eye Development

Divine eye development is a demanding and longwinded achievement for a yogi. It happens when the sense doors are closed for a time, and the coreSelf lost interest in using them to procure physical and psychic objects. The closing of the sense doors is the pratyahar fifth stage of yoga in its highest level of achievement, where in the mind, there is no perception or no urgency for perception felt.

The coreSelf is turned away from its tendency to experience the mental and emotional environment around it. Patanjali aptly stated it as the termination of the chittavritti displays and feelings in the psyche.

During meditation, the divine eye can be operative and the yogi may have no idea that it is. However, after meditating for some time, a sensitivity develops where the yogi can know that even though there is no clear perception of subtle and supernatural events, still the divine eye operates but on a lower frequency.

Sometimes there will be spot clarity where one sees through a portal into the chit akash sky of consciousness and taps into its bliss feature. These momentary experiences are important and should be appreciated and noted by the yogi. Later as the practice develops, the yogi will have more lasting access into the sky of consciousness. Instead of a spot momentary split-second opening, it will be for several moments, say for ten or fifteen moments. Such lengthened experiences indicate that the practice is developing and more meditation should be done.
