Darshan with a Thai Forest Monk
I've been following a monk, Ajahn Suchart, who is a disciple of Ajahn Maha Boowa of the Thai Forest Tradition. He holds weekly zoom question and answer sessions with lay people from all over the world. If one has the patience to listen to a few of these zooms, one will get firsthand association of a modern day forest monk. He has a monastery in Thailand. In that monastery there is no running water or electricity. The monks go on alms round each morning to receive their one meal of the day.
I've shared a link to one of the recent zooms. Many of the lay people in the zoom have long standing relationships with Ajahn Suchart. Some like myself, are newbies. He remembers me though, and knows that I reside in Ohio.
The beauty in the conversations is the way he consistently delivers the essence of the Buddha's teachings, in English language, and how he connects with each participant. Its a wonderful example of how Buddhism continues to thrive in the modern day.
