Buddha’s Escape from Hindu Cosmology
This is an underground talk that I am unable to attribute to any specific Buddhist school. That said, it is a lively and animated talk of Hindu cosmology and how the Buddha escaped from it. I searched this topic because my Buddhist preceptor has been telling me about heavenly realms and how one can go to the Brahma heavens, receive the Buddhist teachings there in many heavenly gardens and attain enlightenment there. It provides real meaning to the oft cited quality of the Buddha as being the teacher of gods and men and those who are trainable. I had some difficulty copying the link from my cell phone so I’ve taken a screenshot of the YouTube page. Here is a recap of the video in the original post (with better graphics) as well as a new presentation of the cosmology of Mahayana Buddhism, which is slightly different. This describes the perspective from the heavens which correspond to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th jhana (dhyana) meditative states. It’s interesting!
