Breath-Infusion ~ Abrasive Practice

At his astral school this morning (March 8th, 2016), Srila Yogeshwarananda spoke about the use of abrasive bhastrika pranayama breath infusion practice. He said that it is necessary at the advanced levels to move into this stage so as to get to the bottom of whatever may be impure and stale energy in the psyche of the yogi.

Srila Yogesh stated this.

It is not enough to do bhastrika lazily. The student should be sure to notice the rate of absorbing of the air into the lungs, otherwise the air will be in and out of the lungs without being absorbed into or expelled from the blood stream. This corresponds to the input of fresh astral energy and the removal of the stale polluted kind in the subtle body.

A student should note if there is an increase in the percentage of air absorb as the weeks and month go by doing this practice. One should be vigilant. The student must himself or herself do this, not the teacher. If you feel it is the duty of the teacher to keep track of this, then you should go back to the cultural life full-time and leave aside this yoga lifestyle for later or for some other lifetime.

As one progresses there should be a shift away from physical food, where the student feels that he or she is losing the addition to physical food and can live without it. The absorption of breath is the practical way to initiate this. It is the way to prepare yourself for full time astral existence, instead of physical existence for sixteen hours and astral existence for eight hours.

Are you ready to be astral full time?

What about astral food?

Will you be starving for physical food after being deprived of your physical body?

Scrub or abrasive bhastrika breath infusion is the rubbing of the air against the alveolar cells of the lings during breath infusion. When this is done the yogi should be aware of it and should feel the air passing as it rubs against the walls of the lungs. This creates a more efficient absorption and causes a more thorough remove of stale energy and input of the fresh type.
