Do those atmas have an inherent interest in that field?

Yes, each atma has inherent interest. Each is unique.
Or the bare atma without sense of identity cannot have any interest, it just exists and roams about freely?

On this side of the existential border where there are only environments produced from the prakriti, the bare atma without the sense of identity has no interest because it cannot perceive the prakriti unless it is equipped with adjuncts to do so. Sense of identity is one such necessary equipment.
As soon as it is allied with that it develops interest instantly.
It is it's sense of identity that gets corrupted in the play of Prakriti, that gets these atmas to play an pivotal part of Prakriti?
