Yogic Fame Hereafter
Fame hereafter begins during the life of the physical body. Yogis, especially, should note this and work for fame in the hereafter rather than fame on this physical side. It may be argued that a yogi should work only for no fame, not here, not anywhere. But to be practical, to work with nature as it is, some fame somewhere is required. Hence the yogi should work for long ranged fame which means fame of the relatively enduring subtle body.
Even if one does not want to be recognized, fame will come because it accumulates as one performs actions, any type of action. It does not rely on one’s desire for it. Even without having the desire, one will become famous in a small or large circle regardless, and even for doing nothing, even for being known as a classic misfit, a failed ascetic.
I practiced one morning when a deceased yogi, a friend, came to make some remarks. He was in a jovial mood because his astral body recovered some vitality after it was affected by a disease in the physical system. He made some remarks about my fame. He said:
Being that you are relatively unknown on the physical side, I was surprised to find out how famous you are among some leading yogis. They all acclaim you for pushing on with the practice, publishing information, and holding the course no matter what happens.
I replied:
Every person may be famous in his little house, village or country. Like for instance there was this man who had a dog and nothing else. Every time the man would return to the cottage where the pet was kept, the animal would go into gitters about it. The animal was very happy to see the man. To that dog the man was the most famous person.
It is like that, where I know a few yogis. If you talk to those persons, even though they are in the minority, it will seem that I am well-known. Since these persons are departed souls, then you can say that I have some fame hereafter but again most of the departed people have no awareness of my presence.
Just as leading scientist who are not known to the public, know each other. Yogis, the serious ones, know each other.
