Yogi Progress Undermined by Bad Motive

Motive can either undermined or reinforce a yogi. Most students begin with a bad motive even though many fail to realize this because the kundalini life force hides the reality from the core-self.

If the yoga teacher tries to explain the bad motive to a student, usually the student argues back, becomes let-down and annoyed. The student accused the teacher of making an unfair accusation. Some students get into the petty game of reminding the teacher that he did not treat some other person in that way, that he favored that person and criticized the student instead.

I had an astral visit from a deceased student who wanted to discuss with me the undermining influence of bad motives in the life of a yogi. He said he appreciated what I said to him about motive while he used a material body. He explained:

When I had the material body, you alerted me about the motive undermining the yoga progress made. I can now verify that this is true. What happened was that I was badly motivated when I first met you because I wanted techniques to improve the physical health of the body, and to prove myself as a superior ascetic. At the time not being self-critical, I did not realize this, which made matters worse because I had no insight into why I approached you and was demanding of you kriya yoga methods.

I made some progress but since my motives were incorrect, their purpose-energy deducted my progress. I had to introspect, remove the bad motives, reinstated my practice on the proper basis and then begin the practice again.

One way of understanding this is to consider that the motive is the divisor which splits up a number or dividend. Suppose for instance I have five units of anything and then I divine that by five. That will result in my having only one units. But if for instance I have five units of something else and I divide that by naught (0), then I will get nothing as the result.

A bad motive depending on how ill-motivated it is, will erode whatever benefit one gets from a practice. I am grateful that you explained this to me when I used the physical body.
