Yoga Mistakes Taught

There are many mistakes which are inevitably transmitted while teaching yoga to students. Even the great masters of yoga, gave advisories in their time which were mistaken processes which either did not suit a particular student or were wild-goose chases.

And yet, that does not mean that one should think that one can progress only by going it alone in yoga without any senior. Undoubtedly if one goes it alone, own will need to take help when a particular method pans out and one finds that it progressed for a time and then fizzed out, like someone on an ocean voyage who caught a trade wind which led to a barren island in the middle of a vast ocean.

Without assistance from supernatural beings, a loner may never reach the culmination of yoga. For sure, everything is spelled out in books like the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, the Uddhava Gita and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and yet, one must get extra help not just to decipher such texts but to fill in the missing blanks and to show some details which are simply omitted either because those teachers did not encounter such difficulties or because they were so trivial to those masters that it did not occasion them to mention.

A master who himself discovered an error in the instructions or an omitted detail certainly if he has compassion for a student will explain how to overcome those aberrations but there may be a few selfish teachers who may not alert the student.

However there is a confidence whereby while a student goes this journey alone, supernatural beings will inspire that person from within the mind or by giving indications in the environment he is in, so that he will insightfully see those mishaps and correct them in the practice, so that he can bridge to the next level.

It is important that a student not get derogatory with a teacher, even with a teacher with whom there is a disagreement. Why? Because that person may release to the student information pertaining to the mistakes he made and the errors which it took him years or even lives to discover. Hence it is not in any student’s interest to be an upstart to any teacher.
