Unhappiness / A Vital Need

Is unhappiness a vital need?

If not then how can we explain the ongoing quantity in the world of humans and mammals not to speak of what other species are doing in this regard? I spent the last 60+ years in this body escaping from unhappy people and situations but to no avail. Finally like an able-bodied seaman who saw the light, I conclude that there will be a certain percentage of unhappiness in this world come what may. It is there and no one will stop it. No human aspiration will put an end to it. Most of the humans who claim that they are not interested in it are very much so on occasion when they insist on being unhappy even when objectively there is no need for them to be so.

Over the years since using an infant body my quest was to escape from unhappy people and situations but thus far I still marvel at how I get caught with such people and find myself in such situations among them, baffled as it were, how they relish unhappiness and just cannot apply any good advice to cease it.

The English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner where an aged seaman under the influence of some spell killed an albatross. This was an accursed thing to do in the North Sea in the days of sailing ships. Subsequently the ship wandered here and there like a hungry ghost all over the sea. There was neither food or freshwater and the ancient mariner suffered terribly. Later he told the story to a young man on the street and that is how the poem began.

The young man had no interest in the story and kept trying to escape from the aged sailor who confessed the tale, but the seaman practically forced the young man to hear of the horrible incidence of the murder of the bird. It was like that for the direction of my life so far.

Unfortunately for me, I not only meet unhappy people and circumstances in the physical existence but in the subtle psychic one as well, which means that there is a twenty-four hour possibility for me to be assailed by people’s miseries.

The marvel of it, that just as a seaman who wants to find for his boat a body of water which is perfectly still, so I wanted to find perpetual happy people and places but to no avail.

Did I kill the albatross?

Is that why I am accursed to always be with unhappy people?

May be that the blasted bird was flying overhead. I got weary putting up with it, resting on the masts repeatedly and squawking for some piece of molded bread. So I killed it. Thus for me, there will always be unhappy people and circumstances to meet.

Where is the happy world with the ever-happy people and places?

Where is it?
