Transfer of Instinctive Confidence

Confidence, faith, trust are real aspects of nature. These cannot be abolished merely by stating that one is independent of everything else or that one is connected (samyoga) with everything else.

Reliance is one thing which we will never get rid of. So long as there is a you and there is a me, reliance will be engaged.

In teaching yoga, one should be careful not to interfere with the instinctive confidence of others, even those who come as students but who cannot possibly transfer their confidence from other aspects of belief to the yoga. If a teacher adjusts the trust energy of a student before the student evolves sufficiently, then there will be a negative backlash from nature as it tries to enforce the old application of faith.

It is experienced, that some students come, express faith in the yoga process as it was delivered by Patanjali or as it was explained by Sri Krishna. Then these students go away and resume old habits which are counterproductive to yoga. This happens because they did not evolve sufficiently with the old application of faith to the material world.

Nature is not concerned to protect anyone from folly. In fact it may encourage foolishness and impracticality. It does this by reinforcing a person’s confidence/trust energy even when it is being applied to something which will frustrate the individual.

Why does nature give this support even to impractical ideas, which it knows it will not honor?

Perhaps nature (prakriti swarupa) itself should speak up with an answer.
