The Empathy Thing
Feeling sorry for others, taking self-credit for emphasizing with someone in need or in suffering?
Are you into the bodhisattva ideal of never taking liberation until all conditioned beings are liberated?
So far and as long as this creation was running, we can reasonably assume that it did so for billions of years and that these conditioned beings were unconsciously present here in some form or the other at the onset. Perhaps too, a large percentage of these beings were here during the previous creation, when they were not liberated but were put out of their excitement and perplexity only to wake up again in this new creation in a similar, better or even worse condition.
Are you sure that your vow to assist these beings is practical because if this is a run on creation type of energy, it means that there will never be a time when there will be no conditioned beings. Hence to be practical your vow to liberate all these beings commits you to an endless never achievable quest.
Fortunately for you however, the overarching cause of this creation will not take your proposition seriously and may release you from the vow because you were not, is not, and will not be in a position to be a master of the destiny of this. Even to be a master of your limited self eludes you, even that is questioned from moment to moment.
But hey, my intention is not to steal your thunder. I just wanted you to know that your idea is ridiculous.
Asanga and Nagarjuna are held responsible for introducing the idea of the bodhisattva principle of not being liberated until every being is liberated but there was another person involved in the dissemination of the idea. That was Atisha. Are you aware of the efforts of these persons?
It is always informative to know who began a certain idea and what that person did in fact achieve regarding the concept.
I am sorry if I took your lollypop.
Here, please take it back!
