Spinal Mishap doing Yoga Postures

It is easy to have spinal cord or disc mishaps when doing yoga. One should do postures carefully while being aware of what happens to the tendons, muscles, bones, and organs, during the various poses assumed. No one should think that he/she may do every posture. Nor should one have the idea that one can do every posture to perfection.

Invariably, persons who do extreme postures or final poses in a youthful body, can do only some of those postures to such extent, in the elderly years. The ability to do postures relies on many factors such as.

·      age of body

·      genetic built of the body

·      diet used

·      tolerance of the specific body type

If someone pushes beyond the genetic limit, one may damage the body. Some damage may be permanent. Some may be readjusted over time by avoiding the posture which caused the misalignment.

Some bodies can do forward bends easily and efficiently. Some can do backward bends. However, there is a limited when assuming each posture. A yogi should internally observe what is stretched or contracted during a certain posture. He should keep the activity within limits. In each posture there is a limiter. To find it, one should assume a posture gradually and also readjust from it with keen observation of what occurs in the muscle, tendons, and organs.

Postures which require swift movements where a yogi cannot determine how the various parts of the body which are involved, are being stressed, should be done in slow motion initially. Over time when one has confidence that nothing will go amiss due to the rapidly of the assuming the pose, one can judge an over-stretch or an excessive compression.

It should be that any mishap can be figured because of making inner observations while the pose is assumed. One should stop a spinal twist for instance and should not take it to the extreme where it out-stretches muscles, tendons, or nerves, or where it frictions one bone on another, or where it pinches, or crushes the pads between each vertebrate.

Avoid over torquing, stretching, or compressing the lower spine. A forward stretch may cause the vertebrate to kick out backwards. This may cause mild or severe pain, to such an extent, that the yogi must cease the asana postures for a time, for a week or for months even. Yoga asanas are not a gymnastic feat. It requires keep inner observation and great care with the body.
