Self ~ Which One Are You?
There are at least three selves which modern people may acknowledge. These are the ones which have nothing to do with yoga, New Age, positive thinking, spirituality or any such hocus pocus subjective vague ideas. What are these selves?
I list three:
- Emotional Self
- Rational Self
- Observational Self
Emotional Self
The emotional self is all about pleasure any which way or pleasure in a respectable way which upholds the status of the individual. This emotional self can be reckless. It can exhibit an I-don’t-care attitude all depending on the time and event. Its bottom line is pleasure at any cost but it may consider repercussions for indulgence at certain places or at certain times. It has a restraining ability which it exhibits when it finds that to serve the purpose.
Rational Self
The rational self is all about justification for actions. These include psychic actions which are not obvious to physical senses. It conducts both psychic actions which are supported by obvious physical acts, and also covert psychic movements which cannot be traced through physical performance. Planning and scheming is the mission of the rational self. It may or may not support the motivations of the other parts of the psyche. It can operate on its own or it may influence the person-composite to act for its interest. It is mostly involved with hunting adventure and wielding curiosity. It feeds on whatever it discovers as it hunts for a reason to engage in events.
Observational Self
The observational self is victim of events. It does one thing only, which is to observe happenings which are shown to it by the emotional and rational selves. This is costly to it but it is forced to pay for these entertainments because the emotional and rational selves extract energy from it to run their operations.
There are two features which affect the objective observational self. These are:
- Observation of the activities of the emotional and rational sectors
- Impulsive extraction of energy from within itself
~~~~~~~
Of the three selves, the one which is in a bad way is the observational one. This self carries the energy expense even for what it does not endorse and does not like.
The emotional and rational selves may work separately or in unison but in either case, these powers freely take energy from the observational sectors to run their operations. They also force the observational self to take note of what they execute.
~~~~~~~
Imagine a situation where two enemy soldiers come into a city. They go to the house of a young man, seize his mother and inform him that they will kill her. Then then show him a list of the financial cost of her upcoming death. In this list they itemize the following:
- cost of a gun,
- cost of bullets,
- cost of running a vehicle to carry her to the execution place,
- cost of burial of her dead body,
- cost of making a death certificate,
- cost of taking him to the execution place as a witness,
- cost of taking him back to his residence after the execution.
Here the man must pay for everything even for his observation of the event which he is forced to witness.
Is this fair?
Is this how the psyche operates?
Which of the three selves are you?
Or are you the three selves in one schizophrenic composition?
