Memory Registry
Study of memory operations becomes important in the high end of meditation practice (samyama). Memory damages attempts at advance meditation when it imposes itself on the core-self during efforts to cease mento-emotional movements which keep the core-self on lower levels of consciousness Thus, memory is a target for destruction or elimination.
Patanjali gave the alert that memory is one of the vritti automatic functions of mind which make it impossible to achieve high-end absorption. This alert may cause a panic for the student where he or she is at a loss for what to do to banish memory. Repeated efforts at thwarting the activation of memory does bring partial success eventually. Then the student is faced with another task which is the plainness of mind during some meditations when the mind does not reflect or have within it higher states of consciousness or energies which automatically take the mind to higher levels.
A realization finally comes in meditation. As it is, the mind is incapable of holding deposits of memory when it switches to higher levels. It is seen that the mind quickly and efficiently intakes, processes and retains memories of physical and/or psycho-physical happenings but it is unable to retain abstractions and higher mystic states, especially those which have a neutral or semi-neutral bliss energy aspect.
This feature of the mind, its inability to retain memory of higher states, is a negative aspect which the yogi can remove only by instructing the mind to note neutral states when they occur. It has to hold such states in memory and use them during meditation instead of invoking the easy to retain physical or psycho-physical instances.

The manufacture of the senses of the subtle body is done by the kundalini. Thus the senses are loyal to kundalini. Hence for changes to be made to the way the senses are configured, it has to be done by instructing the kundalini. The core-self has that task to complete in higher yoga.
