Influence of Core-Self
The influence of the core-self is the question which yogis stammer about when they try to provide a truthful answer, as to how influential the core-self is and how much of its power is not its own but is the autonomy of the psychic adjuncts to which the core-self is harnessed, irrespective of whether the core-self desires to be enslaved or not.
In meditation a yogin is supposed to be free from the conventional mento-emotional operations. However this requirement of Patanjali Mahayogin is hard to comply with because as nature would have it the core-self discovered itself to be without that hoped-for autonomy, with itself being controlled by the adjuncts but in a control situation where it is entertained, and afflicted in various ways, which excite and keep it bewildered.

What is your general state of mind when you sit to meditate?
Do you struggle to keep the conventional mento-emotional operations silent?
Do these cease of their own accord, when you sit to meditate, so that you are in a blank mental space where you are not influenced especially by the adjunct which creates thoughts and images, which collects and processes memories, which re-enacts pleasant and unpleasant feelings?
What is your influence in the forehead during meditation?
Can you stop all thoughts which arise as soon as you perceive them?
