Donations = Heaven Hereafter

Is it true that if someone gives a donation to a religious organization, a church, mosque or ashram, that person will go to the preferred heaven hereafter?

Why do so many people, most lay flowers of religious sects the world over, have this feeling, this confidence, that if a donation is made to the religious sect, it will result either in prosperity here and now or heaven after death?

Is this natural confidence in donations based on solid fact or is it just native superstition?
