Design of the Mind in Meditation
One issue which must be faced in meditation is the design of the mind. Patanjali, the author of the Yoga Sutras, admonishes students in the very second verse about terminating the agitations and fluctuations of the feelings and the mind. He also instructed for the termination of sleep.
A question is there.
Is it possible to change the mind’s natural design?
Under what conditions can the mind’s designed be altered?
For how long could it be adjusted?
What is the relationship between a command for change in the mind, and the mind’s design to execute such alteration?
If the normal mind state will not allow the termination of agitations and fluctuations, then on which level of consciousness, will the mind be willing to cease its shifts?
What about the loss of objectivity during a meditation practice, where the self is unable to make adjustments in the mind, because it is simply not in a position to execute the self’s wishes.
