Core-Self as Menial Servant
There is nothing like being a king, being in charge, having to do nothing but loll in the sun and enjoy life, while others serve one’s beck and call. This is the situation of the core-self when it enjoys whatever the mind presents to it and whatever the feelings subject it to.
In a meditation recently, Srila Yogeshwarananda checked on my practice. Then he said this:
Feed the horse.
Give it grass, grain and water.
Just enough and no more.
Do not starve the beast.

He was speaking of the buddhi intellect psychic instrument in the head of the subtle body. This advice however pertains to the kundalini life force as well. One can take care of the senses so that they do not bicker and crave pleasure by doing kundalini yoga, getting the kundalini to generate sensations for enjoyment which do not imperil the psyche or cause it to go into exhaustion and depression.
Once the yogin separates the core-self from the buddhi intellect, the task that is yet to be achieved is the re-unification of the self and the same intellect. Once the intellect is tamed sufficiently, that is termed as preliminary kevala (kaivalyam). But there is the final kevala which means that the core-self instead of being alone alone, is alone with the tamed reformed and fully cooperative non-mischievous intellect.
At first the intellect is starved as one would an unruly horse. But once the horse shows signs of submission, one should begin to feed it bit by bit, with the creature always remembering who is, in fact, the master.

What does the intellect feed on?
The answer is simple:
Sensation and attention
Where does it get sensations from?
The kundalini psychic lifeforce
Where does it get attention from?
The core-self
To give the intellect the type of sensations which will not cause it to be unruly, one should do pranayama breath infusion practice, before meditation.
To give it the type of attention which will cause it not to take command of the psyche, one should give it the attention of the core-self when the self is embedded in naad or when the core-self is not hypnotized by the intellect.
In meditation this should be done.
