Center of Eyebrows Focus

Srila Yogeshwarananda instructed that I alert the students that center of the eyebrow focus, third eye focus and such focus are different in the advanced yoga practice, where it has nothing to do with the brow chakra or third eye.

Brow chakra is not the third eye even through it is part of the viewing psychic apparatus which is the third eye. Just as the metal or plastic casing of a telescope is not the telescope but is only part of the apparatus, so the brow chakra is not the third eye.

In some writings of both informed and misinformed yogis, third eye and brow chakra are used interchangeably but that is due to confusion or due to an inability to distinguish what is what.

The brow chakra is a circular energy configuration which is located at the center of the eyebrows of the subtle body. The third eye functions in that configuration but it is not that configuration itself. Some students stubbornly go off with the idea that when they see the brow chakra they are using the third eye but this is not necessarily true.

Seeing the metal encasement of a telescope does not mean that one looks through the telescope.

There is much disappointment in some students because of their efforts to use and perceive the third eye but that is because of a lack of orientation to these psychic tools. It is especially hampered by a materialistic attitude, an attitude that one has to fulfill everything physically.

There is no doubt that the third eye focus or the brow chakra focus was advocated in ancient yoga books and by many great teachers of meditation but the truth is that the more important practice is to use the buddhi analytic orb (intellect psychic technology).

Srila Yogeshwarananda is of the view, that in the higher stages of meditation practice, when the student gets some clarity regarding the various psychic adjuncts, he (or she) should hone in to the buddhi analytical orb and get it to completely cease its automatic operations which contravene yoga and mystic perception. This is consistent with the request of Patanjali for yogis to cease the chittavrittis which arise in the mind space. On July 18, 2015, Srila Yogeshwarananda told me to divulge some methods of buddhi intellect orb focus. Some of these are done while being absorbed in naad focus and some are practiced while being inattentive to naad but with naad maintaining itself in the background.

These focuses are :

  • Pull focus
  • Push focus
  • Presence dual focus

Each of these have at least three rates which are

  • Mild pressure
  • Median pressure
  • Concentration pressure

To do this practice one has to know the location of the core-self and the buddhi analytical orb. This must be a definite achievement as a prerequisite for doing this practice.

Here are diagrams of the focuses:
