Brahmarandra Meditation Permission

Meditationtime Forum Post

Srila Yogeshwarananda came this morning and gave permission for a meditation in the bell housing of the brahmarandra chakra.

Why is his permission necessary?

Well it is not. Anyone can meditate on brahmarandra chakra if that person knows where it is located, or if that person can perceive it in one way or the other. Even persons who cannot perceive it and who merely visualize it based on information they get from others or from book, can at least make the attempt to meditate on it.

Guidance from a yoga guru however should not be underestimated, because a guru if he or she is proficient, can pilot the student for rapid success and for a non-hit-and-miss practice.

Srila Yogeshwarananda wanted a relocation of the core self into the bell housing of the brahmarandra top-of-the-head chakra with naad sound adhering to the core self. As soon as I did this, I noticed a glow light from brahmarandra which is brighter than the naad sound light. I will do that meditation for a time, until other instructions are provided.

See the diagram of the bell housing in this previous post of Mibeloved:

This is an advanced practice which one may do if one gets the analytical orb into an attitude of submission. Rishi Sing Gherwal gave this procedure. A similar but more advanced procedure was given by Yogeshwarananda Yogiraj in which the orb moves up under the crown chakra, is fused into that chakra and takes a bell-housing shape under the crown chakra.

Yogesh’s procedure is too advanced. One would have to be in isolation for some years in order to practice that method.

Rishi’s method is as follows:

1.     Always get kundalini raised into the head and then use kundalini to attack the analytical orb repeatedly. This means that kundalini is focused into the place where the orb usually creates thoughts, ideas and images.

2.     When during breath of fire practice one finds that there are thoughts created by the orb or that it has sensed a thought which was created by another person and which hits the orb, one should direct the breathing energy to that location where the thoughts or thought contact occurred. One should do this aggressively and do battle with the orb to subdue it.

3.     As soon as one ceases the breath of fire practice and sits to meditate, one should focus on the naad sound and move the core-self back into the naad sound. When this is completed and when one finds that the core self remains in the naad and that the orb is not troublesome and demanding but remains quiet like a mouse in a hole which is afraid of a cat, then one should as the core-self step into the orb.

4.     If one does this and one finds oneself in the center of the space of the orb, it will feel as if one has stepped into a transparent bubble. One will know if one achieved this because one will be able to move back into the naad sound and then step into the bubble again.

5.     One will not be able to do this if the orb is resistant to the core-self, in which case, one should merely remain with naad and continue the practice of being in naad in isolation from the influence of the orb.

6.     This practice is definite and is not imaginative because of the location difference between the naad and the analytical orb. These aspects have their particular location just as the eyes are located in one place on the face and the nostrils are located in another. This is not a mergence experience where everything is one. In this experience these aspects are distinct and separate.

7.     If one is unable to move into the orb as described above, one should not worry about it or feel undone. Simply keep practicing to move the core-self in the influence of naad. Keep confronting the orb until you are no longer afraid of it, and until the core self has stamped out its independent notions.

Please see the diagrams below with their notations:

Standard locations of analytical orb and core-self

In the above diagram, the standard locations of the analytical orb and the core-self are given. These are their default locations. Even if a yogi is able to relocate these, they will move back to these locations as soon as he or she relaxes the control.

Examine this other diagram below:

crown chakra is activated

In the above diagram, I gave a kriya which was shown to me by Srila Yogeshwarananda some years ago. Unfortunately this diagram is useless unless one has been in isolation with the right techniques for some years. In this diagram the crown chakra (brahmarandra) is activated and the analytical orb has assumed an alien location under the chakra. In doing so the orb has assumed a bell shape.

Srila Yogeshwaranda discussed this in his Science of the Soul book and he showed me this just for the record. Right now we have advanced technologies like the iPhone but what is its value to some monkeys in a forest. They will have to wait millions of years as they are pushed through evolution before they can make any sense of the gadget.

In comparison to Yogesh, I am such a monkey. He showed me the psychic technology but I wanted to get a banana instead.

Please look at this diagram:

core-self has entered the analytical orb

In the above diagram, the core-self has moved from its standard location and has entered the analytical orb which is in its default position.

To achieve this, the core-self should first locate, listen to and then move into the naad sound. And when the self detects that the orb is submissive, it should make the attempt to move into the orb as I described above.

I suggest that you now read the top part of this article once again, since it would make more sense after seeing the diagrams.

All of this except for the diagram from Yogesh was sent by Rishi Singh Gherwal.

Thank you Marcia for re-posting these important connections from the past.

I have been studying carefully Srila Yogeshwarananda's "Atma Vijnana", and more recently Rishi Singh Gherwal's "Kundalini: The Mother of the Universe", this latter book, written in 1930, can be read here for free: LINK

By reading the previous posts, after sometime experimenting with the meditations, dots are connected.

I don’t know what is this. I am even unable to practice with Naad sound properly. Long way to go.

Thanks for sharing MiB, Marcia and Alfredoji.

Manish Ji!

Really? It took you a while to say it.

What about coming down from Cloud 9 where you often position yourself and doing some pranayama? (CLOUD NINE)

Your wife was right once when she told you to lay off the computer for a while.

The only problem you will encounter, you will wake up the family and may have to go and find a quiet place outside your home to do it, which is quite difficult in India nowadays, for a sadhu or a dacoit could be waiting for you.

Now seriously...have you gone through one single session of the pranayama taught by the Acharya as exemplified in several of the videos posted here?

manishsony 3 years ago

Well .. tough to explain. I am able to do pranayama practice but may be not exactly as MiB told us.  After Pranayama, I start to meditate. The problem is when I start to meditate, the movie show start every time. This movie show takes control of everything. I don't hear sound generally. The pictures and movies come and go. If I go further the show stops and I am able to see and feel the energies around me in different colors. The further I go the more powerful these energies built and my whole body gets into vibration and I can feel illuminated tiny particles of me.

But on the contrary side even though I am able to here the sound something like Whistles, or the sound like ears get after Gunshot. Is that equal to Naad? When I concentrate on this sound nothing happens. I tried so many times for that so ultimately I have to move my focus to third eye or crown chakra.

I am living in far, silent and nice green place but timing is real problem for me. Many times I wake up late so practice fails.

I want accuracy in practice and also want to enable the DTS sound system.

Alfredo 3 years ago

The movie show starts because you are not concentrating at the back of the head. Only there you will be free from the Buddhi organ that generates the picture show. This organ is located towards the front of the head.

It takes time and practice.

In order to attune to Pranava or Naad, you could do Yoni Mudra (Hatha Yoga Pradipika) at the end of the pranayama session, covering both the eyes and the ears. Plugging the ears here helps to tune to Naad.

The sound of Naad is manifold, like you described it and then some. The whistle one is probably the most common, uuuuuuiiiiiiiiiiiiiihhhhhhhhhhhh!

like that, as you go deeper into it, you will notice one or more nodes from where it generates.

You say nothing happens when you concentrate on this sound? And who said something must happen right away? That's the problem. The student should concentrate on it for the sake of it, and have faith in what the teacher said this concentration will produce. It will bring untold benefits but if one expects some siddhi or magic right away, then it won't happen. The benefits are subtle at first, but at the back of the head thoughts will subside. This is nothing else than Samyama on Naad. To properly understand what Samyama is, one must study carefully the Yoga Sutras of Maharshi Patanjali.

What I do is Samyama on Naad for about half an hour, and the rest of the meditation Samyama on another process or a chakra.

That second half for you could be Samyama on the 3rd eye, and so on.

Yes, time is important, and the practice must come first. I wake up anywhere from 2 to 4 AM for practice, but then I don't have small children to raise anymore.

So ... its upto me again, ball is in my court. Hana gets angry when I don't listen to her. She is in picture of my profile.

MiBeloved's Response:

The pranayama practice has to be effective.

Who cares what process it is or who recommends it?

The important thing is:

Does it give the proper effect?

What is the effect?

Let us say you want to travel from Mumbai to London, then you buy a ticket for a flight or a freighter cabin. Then if after so many hours or days you do not arrive in London and you are still in Mumbai, then you can understand that something is amiss.

The problem is that in that case, you know exactly what the outcome is supposed to be but in pranayama what should it be?

What should be the result of the practice of pranayama?

Here instead of arguing about that we can go to Patanjali where he explains yoga as eight (ashtanga) steps. But is there a sequence to this or is it recommended haphazardly.  Should pranayama, the 4th stage progress naturally into pratyahar the 5th stage. Well Patanjali does not say that it should in plain terms. We know that he said that dharana should advance into dhyana should advance into samadhi (6th into 7th into 8th stage) as samyama. He even had a word for it, which is samyama which means in the rough, a complete (sam) restraint (yama) of the mento-emotional energy.

So I suggest to the students, and this is based on my experience, that pranayama will progress into the next stage which is pratyahar and that the pranayama practice which does not do that is useless. Either the student did not learn it properly or it is not a valid process.

But wait let us go back to Patanjali to see if really he did not hint at this. Look at these verses:

Yoga Sutras Chapter 2

तश्चस्मन्सश्चत श्वासप्रश्वासमोगयश्चतश्चवच्छेद् प्राणामाभ्४९

tasmin satiśvāsa praśvāsayo

gativiccheda prāāyāma

Once this is accomplished, breath regulation, which is the separation of the flow of inhalation and exhalation, is attained.

and from that, is attained the state of the mind for linking the attention to a higher concentration force or person.

      ===============

Here Patanjali goes even further to say that pranayama when it is successful and valid, will not only give progression into 5th stage of pratyahar sensual energy withdrawal but into the 6th stage dharana linkage of attention to a higher reality. There will be no hish-hashing of the usual nonsense in the mind.

      Alfredo's Reply:

You contradict yourself, as you have been recommending your pranayama process - kapalbhati and/or bhastrika breath-of-fire - here for the longest time.

So...who cares? I do, for once, I suspect others too. That's why I recommended it to Manish. Having tried others, they do not work as well.

The fact is, many sadhaks get entangled in some pranayama practice, and most only work when a long time is given to the practice and when done properly. Both parameters usually work against the sadhak. So the process is also critical.

Thank you very much for sharing the wisdom both of you. I think I need more practice which honestly I am not doing. I do practice for minutes..

Another problem is my visualization is so strong that it takes control of me. Different planets, lifeforms, far places, sacred geometries comes beautifully.. It stops automatically after some time and I get into deep meditation. I think the method I am using is visualization method. Once we are in correct theater we will see correct movie as per our objective. If we don't want to see it we can go further for knowledge state, dhayana state or different mental levels.

I think outcome or result of both the methods are same, but for cross validation of myself and my methods I will have to follow inner voice or Naad. The final meeting place of both the methods should be one otherwise there is something wrong in one of my methods.

Comment posted by MiBeloved in Inselfyoga when this post was posted for a brief period in Inselfyoga for testing and deleted later:

These are from an older post when our site was at another internet location. This information is perpetual. One important thing about this is the diagrams.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the diagrams and you have no idea of an intellect as something as a psychic organ. It is a different way of thinking about your psychology. Study the diagrams and consider if you can begin perceiving components of consciousness.

People who drive autos hardly have interest in what is below the hood. There is no need to look below the hood if the vehicle works properly and if there is a breakdown and you have a qualified mechanic and can afford his services, there is no need to bother with the various parts.

In yoga however, it becomes necessary to be distinguished from the psychic adjuncts which are combined with the observing self. It becomes necessary to study how the self is influenced within the compartment of individual consciousness which we term as me or I, or my body or his body, or my mind or his mind or my emotions or his emotions. These diagrams address that issue.

Knowing that the car is one thing is one way of viewing the car but if it breaks down, that one view becomes an impediment in terms of repairing the vehicle. One has to isolate the defective part to get the auto moving again. Thus fragmenting out the components of consciousness, the conventional self, has importance in higher yoga practice, even though it is unnecessary and somewhat unnerving in conventional life.
