Base Chakra / Kundalini Inquiry

Email Inquiry:

Also when I do that kind of breathing while having my attention fixed more or less on the Sacral chakra (on the spine), it gets stimulated, If I can get it to become very intense a heavy unbearable arousal kind of sensation will be felt.. From previous experiences if continuing even more that part will glow liquid milky white and burn a bit. Is it possible.. Is it possible to raise kundalini while stimulating/infusion the sacral chakra? Because I feel that it also effects the base chakra in some way..

MiBeloved's Response:

The base chakra is inclusive of the sacral area of the spine. It is part of the chakra outlay of energy. It is not separate.

Base chakra is more like a junction of roadways meeting at one intersection where there is much traffic passing. Base chakra may also be compared to a central railway station in a city. It is supervising and distributing energy to the lower intestines (bowels), the rectum, the under-base of the sexual apparatus, the thighs, the legs and the feet. It is also supervising the sleep-wake cycle and controlling when and how the subtle body will be projected from or synchronized into the physical system.

Under normal circumstances, in the average human being or animal, the base chakra has a dense energy which is dark brownish or dark purplish in color. This is the raw energy of it because its basic vibrational level is the inertia mode of material nature, known as tama guna.

If a yogi infuses pranic energy into this chakra, then eventually if there is enough infused force, it will change in vibration so that it no longer has the inertia energy in it. It will first move into the passionate mode and then if the infusion continues, it will move into the sattva guna mode. When it is in the sattva guna clarifying energy mode, the energy in it will be light-weight subtle energy. The color will be light yellow or white or crystal clear or translucent.

However because this chakra is by nature pertaining to the inertia mode of material nature, it will rarely remain in the higher mode. It will again resume its basic nature-supported configuration.

Whenever the yogi can by whatever means, cause the dense energy to dissipate out of this chakra, then the kundalini will shiver and it will make an effort to move. Depending on the quantity and quality of the new energy in this chakra, kundalini will move or will merely shiver as it feels the change in vibration.

If it gets a sufficient charge it will make a move and will do so in the most convenient direction. If the locks are applied efficiently it will move up the spine through the sushumna nadi central passage and may reach into the head of the body if it has sufficient impetus. Otherwise it will move up the spine some distance and then fiz out and move back down to the base chakra (muladhara).

If there are no locks applied or if the locks are applied inefficiently, then kundalini will spread in any direction which it finds to be an easy access.

If kundalini goes downwards instead of upward through the spine or through the trunk of the subtle body, then the student will feel its energy in whatever area it travels. If the locks were applied and it goes downwards, the yogi will realize the various nadis which spread through the base of the spine and into the lower buttocks, thighs, legs and feet.

Amazingly clear explanation. Thank you.

Kundalini is said to be coiled - kundala - around the base chakra.

There is often much fear one hears regarding the awakening of it, that if it is done without proper guidance, the person may go mad, suffer. A lot of it has to do with the experiences and writing of Pandit Gopi Krishna, who wrote that while practicing yoga on his own, he had a Kundalini awakening that almost drove him insane, and so on. Then also, one often hears similar warnings, especially coming from Indian Gurujis, adepts themselves to keep teachings secret.

So, my question to you, Acharya, is this:

How true is this? Is this fear based on reality or overblown?

MiBeloved 5 years ago

I am not concerned about the fear. It is not my duty to explain it either way, for or against.

But all the same, if someone wants to learn it, I am here to teach it.

There is nothing wrong with fearing it. There is nothing wrong with being courage enough to confront it

If a scientist wants to fool around with uranium, who cares?

But if he does that and makes a better bomb, every government in the world will want to pay for his secret.

Yes, uranium is dangerous but so what?

Humanity advanced up from the jungle floor because of taking risks. Some of these blew up in our faces but many of these served some useful purpose either in the short or long range.

As a teacher of kundalini yoga, I have my hands full and I do not have time to reply to people who are concerned about fearing it but all the same I am not against those people. My mood is this:

Let them harbor their fears.  We do not need everyone to be in our inSelf Yoga© kundalini training program. We have a large enough student enrollment at this time.

The time spent defending the practice would be better invested in improving one’s individual practice and in being more attentive to students who are willing to learn it.

Great...thanks!

Thanks Michael!

Alfredo already mentioned the fear part of awakening the Kundalini.. then I should add as well and ask for your opinion how you see the following thing:

Many Gurujis, Yogis, and other sources of guidance and in general the whole internet, almost every piece of information that exist out there tells you to do Pranayama practices for weeks/months in order to purify the nadis which will awaken Kundalini eventually.. this is the only site ever were I think such concept doesn't exist.. here it's about infusing prana correctly which will make Kundalini rise which I think have nothing to do with even purifying the nadis?

This has been bothering for me for a very long time, so I really wish to get some clarification on this subject.

I know some people who did long session a few times per day with different kind of practices one after another such as Kriya Yoga, Nadi Shodhana, and from their experience after a few months their nadis were probably so purified that Kundalini awoke in them and experience 24/7 bliss even outside practice session and almost every Pranayama to raise energies will work for them due the nadis being purified.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was wondering what would be the difference when infusing prana with having attention at the base chakra (perineum?) then under the navel? if the infusing is done under the navel eventually if there is a big enough charge there it will go down the groin and hit kundalini at the base.. but what happens if you directly sustain attention on the base chakra? will Prana just like that accumulate there and hit Kundalini directly?

Talking about the Navel Chakra.. there is the front navel channel and also the navel chakra on the spine.. some traditions point the chakras to be in a bit different regions.. can you tell me a bit more about the accurate locations of the navel chakra on the spine and at the front channel?

A bigger question would be, what can I expect if I were to infuse prana at the navel chakra on the spine then at the front body? would that hit the base chakra and hit kundalini as well?

Thanks!

Marcia Beloved's Response:

Thomer, I am by no means qualified to expound on the intricacies of kundalini yoga, but I can speak from my own experience with the frontal navel chakra.  That is not exactly what you have inquired, but I will offer my experience anyway.

I have applied a frontal navel lock for at least 6 years, and it unfailingly, for me, when applied immediately after applying the anus, sex, and abdominal locks, has the effect of pushing down infused prana from bhastrika breathing, causing it to loop down and back to the base chakra, jarring kundalini from her hideout.

I have had many strange and mysterious movements of kundalini while doing this over the years.  When I first started this practice, I had many blackouts. I would return to consciousness thinking, "Who am I?"  Where am I?" and then I would gradually recognize my surroundings.

Also had a few times when kundalini slowly crept up my spinal column in a powerful, broad surge of electric force, rising into the head and causing a temporary loss of consciousness.

I suspect, that the movements of kundalini are limitless.  I have yet to make sense of it all.

MiBeloved's Response:

Infusing prana to make kundalini rise has everything to do with purifying the nadis. There are several methods of raising kundalini and it is done for different purposes in each case. Our system is to infuse prana as you said but with the added benefit of purifying the nadis in the process.

Okay, let me run this by you and then you can ask questions once you are properly informed about what we do. The preliminary process is for infusion of prana, which is shoved or pushed down from the lungs, pass the navel area, into the pubic area where the sex hormone energy is located. Prana is then mixed there with that energy. This produces an explosive mix.

If there is enough prana infused, then this explosive force bridges to the base chakra where kundalini is hold up in its grotto (hideout). Once the mixed energy bridges to it, kundalini makes an attempt to move. At first it will just make an attempt, like when a snake is interfered with while it is sleeping in its hole. It will just raise its head or open its eyes but it won’t move.

Why should it? It is at the top of the food chain. It has no concern with lesser animals.

However if you keep poking at the snake and threatening it seriously way with fire for instance, then it has to move. It has to respond and realize that its position is being seriously challenged. So if there is enough of a charge of the mix energy between prana and sex force, then kundalini will not only wake up but will move. Because of the locks which are applied, kundalini cannot go down and cannot go across to the sex chakra and must go up. This is where the purification of the nadis begins.

This begins first with purification of the sushumna central passage. Kundalini goes up through it and as it goes it purifies it because in that condition kundalini is charged with the prana-sex energy mix and so it blasts its way through that nadi clearing the nadi of dense astral energy.

Of course when kundalini descends again, which it will in a short time, the dense energy will resume and will again close down the sushumna nadi.

So this process is done again and again daily and over time the nadi gets cleared out, and also other nadis in other parts of the subtle body.

Using kundalini to clear the nadis is the failsafe definite way of clearing the nadis. There is no other more superior method. This process makes visualization seem like a joke. It also makes diet control seem like a joke, because this is direct access to kundalini on the supernatural plane of existence where kundalini exists.

This sounds reasonable. If it works like that, then it is okay.

MiBeloved's Response:

In the system we are using we use both methods, meaning the method of directing the infusion to some place and also the method of exploiting the infusion which occurs on its at any place.

Most of the time we follow the formula of:

Prana shows the way.

Which means that if you just do the infusion, you will find that the prana accumulates in a certain place, and then you should exploit it there, compress it inwards into itself there and let it do what it wants to do there. This is because each day the quality of energy is different according to the varying influence of the sun and moon. Because we cannot control these heavenly bodies, we have an open mind and we infuse and see what the prana will do and then we act to maximize that.

It is like the weather.

Should I take an umbrella?

Should I wear snow shoes?

Should I leave home in a canoe?

That all depends on what the weather does on a specific day. In our system we are flexible.

Whatever it does we take advantage and use that to further enhance the subtle body and psychic perception.

MiBeloved's Response:

Navel chakra on the spine is directly behind the navel but it is on the spine itself where nerves bunch up on the spine there. Navel chakra in the front is just where the navel is and concerns the energy which was coming in from the mother’s uterus through the placenta. Once the baby form is delivered, then the navel chakra in the front of the body, turns about and faces inwards instead of outwards, and it drives the digestion and nutrients absorption process of the small and some of the large intestines. It also influences some of the organs involved in that like the gall bladder and liver.

Our main concern with the navel chakra which is in the front is to destroy its spread of influence because it stops prana from penetrating to the groin area.

Navel chakra is a loyal servant of kundalini shakti, so much so that navel holds up all prana and mixes it with the nutrients which it pulls in through the small intestines. With this mix of energy, the navel then trucks out the energy to the sex organ chakra which is in the front groin area. These two front chakras work together and are the enemy of advanced yoga practice. Therefore we work to destroy their alliance.

Kundalini has instructed navel chakra in the front, to get all prana and food nutrients mixed and trucked to sex organ chakra, but our plan is to destroy this alliance once and for all.

      MiBeloved's Response:

This is your best question because this question you will have to answer for us because we have not done this particular kriya. All such methods are actually kriyas. I am sure that some yogi in the past did this but we do not have information on this from any of the books on yoga.

Everything which a yogi did is not recorded, only some of it is; only a small documentation is there.

So for this, you should do this and then tell us what happened. We are all ears to hear about this.

Part of what I did so far was to record what happened to me doing various kriyas, some of which I was shown by other yogis and some which I just discovered on my own. So I share what happened to me to alert others about it. You may do the same.

      Special Note:

Patanjali did leave us with some information about the navel chakra:

      Verse 30

      नाभिचक्रे कायव्यूहज्ञानम्३०

      nābhicakre kāyavyūhajñānam

nābhi – navel; cakre – on the energy gyrating center; kāya – body; vyūha – arrangement, lay out; jñānam – knowledge.

By complete restraint of the mento-emotional energy in relation to the focusing on the navel energy-gyrating center, the yogi gets knowledge about the layout of his body.

      Analysis:

It is necessary in the course of kuṇḍalinī yoga to energize the energy gyrating centers or chakras. These are located on the spinal column of the subtle body. This corresponds to the central nervous system in the gross form. The navel chakra extends to the front of the body, to the solar plexus region. In the case of student yogis, it may also point downward. In advanced celibate yogis it points upwards.

A yogin may enter the navel chakra of his body or that of others, from the front of the body, from the navel, where the umbilical cord was connected while that body developed in the womb of its mother. From there a yogi can see the entire layout of the body, including its lifespan, its potential for disease and its maximum capacity for helping the soul in the quest for liberation.

      Application:

By supernaturally focusing on the navel energy-gyrating center, the yogi gets knowledge about the layout of the subtle body. This information and experience is had by the embryos, but they cannot utilize it.

      Marcia Beloved!

Thanks a lot for sharing! it's always good to know how Kundalini functions in different people!

      Michael,

I got the whole part of that we raise Kundalini daily in order to purify the Nadis,

My point was, that from many different sources it's exactly the opposite, as in doing Pranayama sessions (not raising Kundalini) but that the breathings itself are purifying the nadis, while doing this for weeks/months the nadis become so purified by the breaths alone (not Kundalini) that Kundalini will Awaken on its own.

Thanks a lot for the detailed Navel Chakra Explanations!

So the navel chakra is exactly on the navel spot? some say it's 3-4 fingers width inside the body, I guess the navel chakra extends at the very front of the navel, outward and even inward?

actually today I did some light rapid breathing while laying down and sometimes some flames of heat was felt a little bit deeper inside the body more or less at the navel area.

I cannot subscribe to this opinion but that does not mean that you may not be able to give me an example of this being a fact.

In my experience the breath alone cannot purify the nadis because some of the energy of the nadis is on a higher plane of consciousness, and it can only be affected by a combination of breath infusion and kundalini and a very explosive mixture of that for that matter.

The breath energy itself does not reach a high enough level to fully purify the nadis. This is my experience.

Navel chakra is in all the places you mentioned above. It is spread out and according to where one senses it, that is where one thinks it is located. Wires from a breaker box run all over a building, so in that sense the wires are only in the breaker box and in another sense it is all over the building.

Wherever you feel it while you practice, that is where to you it is located. Rarely is one aware of the whole outlay of a particular chakra. That rarely happens.

      Marcia Beloved's Response:

      Maybe even upward?

While doing a week long vipassana retreat several years ago, we were told to focus our breathing in the abdominal area at a point 2 inches above the navel while linking the attention to the rising and falling of the abdomen breathing with the diaphragm.  There were definite results.  The concentration I honed over that week of 9 to 10 hours of meditation daily, was remarkable. I went to spaces in my psyche that I have not been able to return to since, not being able to continue that practice on a daily basis.  It requires a lot of patience.

The bhastrika is designed to give more immediate results.  In my experience it also releases an unruly energy, which one must be able to handle and channel.  As it has been explained to me by Michael, bhastrika breathing in the kundalini yoga fashion is the way to go for the quickest results.  However, one may also need to have a temperament that is suited for such an aggressive approach.  It is not for the faint hearted.  It requires a good amount of stamina, quickness of mind and strong lungs.

Looking at the diagram Michael put up, pretty much all of the navel relocations you mentioned, and the 2 inches above the navel point, are all covered.
