Application of Reaction in Meditation
The reaction mechanism of the mind, is a psychic action component in consciousness. It is spontaneous and hard to control. Most of it is subliminal, where the coreSelf has no idea of its origination and development. The core may make an attempt to handle it, but the reactive substance resists that effort. Often it goes under the layer of self-consciousness and evades being squelched or eliminated.
This happens during meditation and at other times. There are also other entities who live in the psyche. They command it and cause the coreSelf to act on their behalf, but with the core not recognizing that these are alien presences which influence the self.
Some inducements occur through those emotions. These are enticing but they act quickly to bypass the consenting aspect of the coreSelf. Without getting the core’s permission these inducements manhandle even the physical body, causing the self to become involved in actions for which the self must accept the liabilities. They command the voice to speak their request. They make the eyes focus on the colors and forms they desire to exploit.
A yogi must work internally to bring himself to the stage of recognizing the alien presences. Some of these will voluntarily leave the psyche once they are seen by the self. Others will remain after being recognized but they will do so with less forceful presence. A yogi should strive to develop the vision to perceive these people. Those who cannot be evicted because they have rights to use the body, should be monitored, so that their influence over the psyche is not increased.
The control of these factors is gained step by step, incrementally, by endeavoring to satisfy Patanjali’s instruction in the Yoga Sutras, regarding the cessation of the operations of the mento-emotional energy during meditation and as much as possible at other times.
