    Hi Michael

Here are a few comments on the location of the Dan Tian taken from “Who Do You Think You Are?

Diagrams are useful, but I suspect that the location of the Dan Tian may differ from one person to another. And relying on a diagram might slow down the process of locating the Dan Tian, because you might be using your physical body in your attempt to find it. It’s a component of the subtle body. So, the best way to locate it might be to let the subtle body do the searching. Here’s an exercise that works for me:

Exhale completely and hold your breath. Use your free will to keep holding it as long as you can then force yourself to hold it a little longer. Pay close attention to the location where the forces are converging in the desperate urge for fresh air. At some point you will no longer be able to use your own will to hold your breath and a force that is beyond your control will take over. When this happens, air will enter your lungs with a gasp. As you get more proficient at this exercise, you will be able to allow the air to enter more slowly rather than with a gasp. The purpose of slowing down the filling of the lungs is to continue your precise focus on what is happening to your breathing mechanism

You will find that the force that is driving you to inhale becomes more and more centered as the urge increases. Pay attention to this force. At this stage in your yogic journey you are learning to let that urge run everything that is happening inside the body that you have been given.

Get well acquainted with this belly spot and with the energy that enters there. Allow it to enlarge itself so that everything that happens within your body emerges from it. You might think of this as a new self-direction. But at the same time, it is an acceptance of directions from a higher power. Keep your focus on this point. A new focus point may be revealed to you, but for me, at this point in my practice, this is where yogic understanding begins.
