According what I've read from different books by mediums and astral projection authors, they agree that before rebirth, the spirit has to prepare his/her next life, making choices about what lessons they need to learn in their new material experience. Many of these choices are inspired or suggested by higher beings who help the spirit to make the right decision in order to advance in their spiritual development but, most of the time-they explain-those plans are never fulfilled because we tend to forget our aim in this material plane and we usually get lost in sensual desires, etc.

I understand that this is not your experience. It's definitely not how the Buddha explained rebirth. Do you think these mediums or astral travelers are somehow deluded? What makes them coincide in experiencing rebirth this way?

I don’t know what the mediums are talking about. The preparation for the next body is the activities committed in this life. This life is the direct cause of the next life and the direct existential support of that next life. It is not a question of preparing for it when you get into the hereafter, because the preparation is done while you have the physical body.

Suppose the police discover that I committed a vicious murder. I am then arrested, tried in court and sent to prison; then how would it sound if I told you that while in prison, I would be preparing for coming out of prison.

That is crazy. In the first place the preparation for prison was done when I committed the crime, and while in prison I won’t have access to regular citizens’ activities so I will not be able to prepare for going back into a citizen’s life when I would be released.

In the hereafter you do not prepare for the next life, because the basis for the next material body is the most recent material body, not the most recent astral sojourn during the time when there is no material body.

The idea that in the hereafter the departed spirits plan their next body is ludicrous. That is totally false and it is based on a desire to give people a sense of security about rebirth and also to award to people rights which they do not actually have.

Even if you were to plan, such plans would more than likely be squashed by providence, because human history is full of all sorts of pot holes in the form of economic downturns, social revolutions, absentee fathers and now career-minded mothers, misfit teachers and so on, even diseases like HIV and so on.

What a person needs to learn is taught to that person mostly by material nature itself with or without the participation of advanced beings. The main instructor in material existence is nature itself. We have this way about us where we trust material nature more than we trust the elevated beings.
