This is the case pretty much anywhere else in the world. The closer to the white complexion, the better socially. Only in isolated situations are dark skin people genuinely proud of their color (of who they are). Most societies show bias. And, it is essentially about ignorance, vanity, competition, and survival.

It is the same exact situation with the Mexican movie industry and so many others... Many societies with aborigines exist in parallel to the White societies' presence, such as Austalia. Other places in Asia may not even be known to have dark skin people, because only the fair ones have access to education and exposure.

But with the added vanity encouraged by the internet, no one is satisfied where they are in terms of appearance. So many types of external bodily drastic modifications and adjustments are taking place in order to look more like someone else. These are currently intense phenomena in South Korean and to some extent Chinese societies.

Even though in the US the slogan "Black is beautiful" has been around for some time, some products have been systematically advertised with a white female as they wouldn't want to buy something that Blacks also use. Still, the level of awareness around color is disproportionately far ahead of most other places.
