Yogi’s Lust for Power

One feature of personality we have going against us is the lust for power and control. In the spiritual community and among spiritual aspirants, there is little understanding of how lust for power is innate in our psyches. Usually aspirants feel that lust for power is exhibited by worldly people who are very crude and unsophisticated in their means of taking control.

Because the lust for power is very essential to this existence, its removal does not occur through niyama external moral principles and yama social behavioral restraints.

When one joins a spiritual community, online or even physically or when one lives near a spiritual teacher who speaks of harmony, world peace, self-realization and oneness, one may become shocked to find out how power crazed some well-established and reputed spiritual teacher really is.

While worldly people are vulgar and pronounced about their lust for power, spiritual adherents are sophisticated and covert about it; hiding it under their utopian presentations which speak of a social order without disorder and a love and with no chance for hate.

To get to the root of the matter, self-reflection, deep introspection and observation about how the power need in the psyche operates, has to become the primal focus of one meditation.

What is this?

How is this done?

1.    Recognize that there is power need in the psyche.

2.    Define it to yourself by knowing the extent of its power to dominate the energies of the self.

3.    Find out if it can be removed from the self partially or completely.

4.    Test various methods or recommendations for doing this, to be sure that these would delete this unwanted feature.

5.    Privately work day after day in meditation to execute this deletion.

6.    Be silent about this practice so as not to draw any attention to yourself, since such association would rob you of the time, focus and existential isolation required to make this effective.
