Materialistic relatives do find use for a spiritually-inclined yogi, provided the yogi is willing to act in a way which gives social upliftment to the family, in terms of dollars and cents, class prestige and the removal of nuisance aspects of material existence.
Sometimes a yogi is appreciated by relatives, if he has medical knowledge and can save a relative from disease. Sometimes a yogi is appreciated if he has a scheme for making money by rapid means. Sometimes a yogi is appreciated if some method of his is regarded as classy in society.
Otherwise these relatives, the living and departed ones, consider the yogi to be an embarrassment to the family, a let-down, a retarded little elf.
Even in the astral world, when I meet departed ancestors, they hustle to get something from me which they could convert into higher social rewards like prestige, more income and health and beauty of the body. Even though these persons are in the astral world where these aspects are acquired without earning them, still because of the impressions from the past life in a material body, their astral forms act as if these were physical bodies.
Perhaps the most wonderful thing about materialistic relatives who are now dearly departed, is that they see themselves as being in the know about existence. They regard a yogi just as a little side feature to life who may or may not be useful in uplifting the family’s class status.
