Yogi Bhajan: Teacher's Pride

MiBeloved 5 years ago

This morning during exercises, Yogi Bhajan came. He was saying that I should push harder to increase the amount of infusion into the subtle body.

Just before he arrived, I noticed that even though this physical body is now 60 years in surviving, still I am able to improve on asanas. Of course physically that has no value because ultimately, in fact in a few years, this body will be no more, as Nature will take steps to erase its integrity. Therefore the value of this is for the subtle body which will exist for as long as the subtle backdrop of material energy continues, which is for millions of years, and for as long as my core-self is on this side of the existential divide.

Who knows how long that will be? Taking care of the physical body just for the sake of itself makes sense only if one knows the self as a physical body. As soon as one knows the self as something else, even as a psychological unit or compartment, then taking care of the physical body for its own sake, makes less and less sense as the years go by. And how many years will that be, a mere 60 or 70 or 100?

Human beings can talk about existing forever as material forms in the future when technology and science improves, but isn’t that a bit like in religion where there is hope that a savor will come and resurrect dead bodies, raising them from coffins in graveyards? It is a very empty promise for the simple minded.

The postures and stretches are still improving even in a physical body which is 60 years of age, but the real thing takes place in the subtle body, which usually mimics what is taking place in the physical one. So long as the two bodies are fused, there is a give and take between them. One can use that to one’s advantage by taking care of the physical one in so far as it will affect the subtle one positively.

Yogi Bhajan was saying this,

“Push harder. Why play around. I taught these disciplines of breath infusions in the hope that somebody, perhaps one or two persons in the Western society, would take this seriously and attain the status of siddha. That is the least accomplishment required.

“Don’t play around with kundalini. Get it under your thumb. Get it harnessed. Uproot it so that its instincts are abolished by infusion of energy from higher levels. Go with the siddhas. Change your status. Why stay with the human profile when something higher is available.

“It is not about religion. So I was a Sikh by culture but I did not insist that anyone become a Sikh. That is not it. If you take birth in a certain country, in a certain area, the system is that you become obligated to that culture, to that ideology or religion. You might change that after you leave your parents, but still some obligation is there.

“But that is not it. That is superficial. The real thing is your bare spiritual advancement. The monkey is running. The lion is too. The cheetah is too. But which is the most proficient.

“Out stride the system! Move ahead! Don’t be idle with spiritual advancement! Steal time to practice. Push harder! Push harder! Let the teachers be proud of you!”
