What about the diaphragm

As per Swami's request I have witnessed the practice routine of another and it came up that a critical initial step in the practice is the correct understanding of the anatomical position of the diaphragm.

The proper movements of the diaphragm are essential to any advantageous breathing. When it is accomplished, the air intake is maximized; and without it the oxygenation of the kriya yoga process is compromised.

Yoga exercises without the adequate air intake is tantamount to any other regular exercise, because the prime objective of ridding of apana or stale energy cannot be started; and so kundalini effects are still remote.

Any living creature is breathing aerobically or even anaerobically. During exercise breathing is increased to eliminate just enough carbon di oxide, and some soreness or muscle build up still take place, since there will be lactic acid residual.

Only diaphragmatic rapid breathing accompanied with yoga postures is in a position to causelessly maximize oxygen in the body leading to effective burning of negative energy.

Surya Ji!

Thanks for posting this. This is quite important and should be studied and reviewed often.

I watched the videos too. I can see where many of the postures used, and even suggested, promote or provoke the diaphragmatic breathing and also how the deep breathing effected after several asanas (usually standing), promote or provoke the air evacuation of the deepest part of the lungs, exemplified in the last video in yellow in the diagram and called "constant residual lung inflation".

Thanks for posting these, Surya. This is something we all need to study since breathing correctly is the essence of the kundalini yoga bhastrika practice.

Here is another link I found with an exercise given by a vocal teacher.  The diagrams the lady presents, shows the actual contour of the diaphragm, how it moves during breathing, and how it moves surrounding muscles as well.
