Visitation by Uncle and Father

Yesterday I did some early morning exercises and meditation, and then went back to bed and found myself in a dream. I was using a stick-shift car in a very quiet neighborhood, and couldn’t stop it. It was moving so slowly but I forgot how to shift into neutral and apply the brakes. I narrowly missed hitting a parked vehicle. I think I was in a parallel dimension of this neighborhood where we are staying with our daughter in South Florida. One other person was out by the cars and I also saw a strange circular wire which I decided was a version of a 1-wheeled bicycle, in the grass along the side of a building. This odd object is a good indicator to alert me that I was dreaming.
I think the astral projection then ended. I say this because I was then visited by 2 people, my uncle who died a year ago and my father who died in 2004. My uncle gave me a huge embrace. I think my subtle body was merged with the physical when this happened since I didn’t perceive myself as a body. It was more like the uncle’s form encompassing my identity with his energy. And I seemed to be hugging him emotionally and not with a body. He told me that he loved me and I said, “I love you, too.” My father didn’t say anything but remained in the background. Clearly he was following his younger brother. He did not seem to be fully conscious and I speculate that this has something to do with his heavy drinking throughout his life. Although he was a functional, responsible person in his lifetime, in my opinion he was chemically dependent. My uncle was also an alcoholic but a recovered one who spent many years working as a rehab counselor.
Despite my living with a person who has visitations and remembrance of astral relatives and people, alive and departed, all the time, this is a first for me; first time I am aware while being visited by a departed relative.

Were you physically aware during the first part of the dream? What caused you to separate or shift?
How does a chemical dependency in the physical life carry over to the subtle body after death? It seems from your description like he could have also been unaware that you were there...you could see him but he couldn't see you.

I'm not totally clear as to the distinctions of what happened. Actually, both parts of the dream might have been lucid dreaming, with the subtle body remaining in the physical one. The act of recording the dream, serves to remind me that I do not entirely understand what is happening.
I think I remembered this experience because I was taking extra rest after having meditated and exercised. That is related to the possible cause of separation or shifting, as you inquired.
Sometimes in these types of experiences I seem to have a knowing. I definitely am not analytical as contrasted to Michael's experiences and descriptions. Maybe I could progress to that level of analyzation and perception. Maybe my psyche takes a different approach. I like to hear of others' experiences so I can see where I fit in.
I cannot speculate as to the effect of chemical dependency on the subtle body after death. But it was my hunch, as I tried to remember this experience and make some sense of it.
