Swami Vishnudevananda discussed the incidence of selfishness, regarding how it sponsors the retention of sexual fluids just for sexual intercourse. He said this:

It is all about holding a certain quality of sexual fluids to beget bodies. That is the overall mission of nature. So what has a yogi to do with this? Does he intend to beget children? Otherwise why should his body retain the fluids, build up the resulting lusty charge and then have to be expelled to create more complications.

If one does not intent to raise a family what is the issue or concern with sex. But regardless, the system, the kundalini, is habituated to the reservation and accumulation and then expression of sexual hormones. Therefore since that is the natural design, the yogi has to do something to distribute that energy as fast as it is accumulated.

Selfishness is the nature of kundalini because that is how it survives but if you are no longer interested in this material creature existence, then survival has no relevance because your subtle body won’t die within 100 years. Then what is the need for begetting. Every student yogi should carefully consider this.

Failure to reach the high end of yoga practice is related to understanding this and doing something about it.
