Lack of faith in a valid process and absorption of a negative attitude about practice, causes stagnation in the spiritual progress.
Lack of faith springs from not finding any matching experience in the memory chamber. One who has not cut through the jungle before, may have no faith that it can be done. Subsequently that person may begin from the perspective of disbelief about a possible result of yoga practice.
If one mastered yoga in a previous life, then there exists in the subconscious a record of that attainment. As soon as one can reach this attainment-energy, one will feel that what is done in yoga is self-evident. There will be no doubt. This is based on an intuition and not on a constructed belief.
If one lacks faith, then one can push on with practice, if one is circumstantially pressured to do so. Without faith one will not be able to invest in practice, unless one is pressured or absorbs the faith of a person who is convinced about the worth of practice.

Absorption of a negative attitude toward the practice comes from materialistic souls who feel that one should be up and at it, making a living. The idea is that it is best to invest in something substantial, rather to cling to yoga with its after-death attainment promises. A student should find a way to partition the self away from these influences, because otherwise, the student will do the practice in a half-hearted manner or not at all.
There is a continuous tide of energy which comes from the materialistic souls and which exerts restrictive energy on the yogi. This causes the student to harbor doubts, and to be irregular with the practice. He or she never comes to a higher stage permanently.
Doubts also cause the student to adopt pseudo paths which seems to deliver higher benefits than even the ashtanga yoga progress. The leaders of this paths promise a sure advancement in return for very little discipline being imposed on the student. The student fulfills the requirement for a tiny amount of discipline, and then sails off from there in the wide blue yonder.
