The main disturbance while doing asana postures and breath infusion is random thoughts which come in from the psyche of others, who just happen to be thinking of the yogi at the time of the exercises or whose thoughts arrived at the psyche of the yogi while he was doing the exercises.

Even though a thought is a tiny psychic energy it comes with potency and so it is able to distract the focus of the yogi. This is because the initial receptor of thoughts is the psychic touch sensation. This sensation in turn, transmits received thoughts with rapid speed to the analytical function of the mind. This function has a direct access to the core self, just as a private secretary of an executive has access to the office of that important person.

The psychic touch sensation is not under the control and command of the core-self. Its boss is the analytical orb and it does not care about the particulars of the core-self. The core-self does not have direct access to the touch sensation functions.

At any moment a private secretary may barge into the office of an important person and make an announcement, without considering if it is an interference. And this is exactly what happens to the yogi, when the errand boy of the touch sensation runs into the office of the analytical orb which is like a private secretary to the self. Because then the analytical orb just forces its way to the core-self and makes the announcement about a sensual intrusion.

Imagine a scene in which an important man is tucked away with his darling in a penthouse bedroom, high up over a city in the most prestigious building in that place. He is making love to his darling and is at the moment just before reaching the climax of the experience.

And then suddenly the door of his bed room opens and in comes his secretary which what she considered to be an important message. “My dear sir, she says, “I am here to alert you that there is an ant on my desk. The little creature seems to be hungry. Which restaurant should I call and what meal should I order for the poor insect?”

So this is the kind of disturbance a yogi might get when he is doing a session of exercises or a session of meditation. It is for this reason that the ancient yogis way back from the time of the Upanishads, discovered and introduced the process of pranayama, which is breath infusement for suspending the job of the private secretary, which is the analytical orb. With breath infusion the yogi is able to suspend the functions of the analytical orb for a time, and so its interfering powers are put on hold for an hour or for half hours according to the effectiveness of the pranayama practice.

Patanjali has alerted that this analytical orb is the nuisance for yogis and he suggested that the secretary should be fired once and for all. Of course Patanjali’s proposal is absurd for a beginner because a student yogi may not even distinguish the analytical orb. He may not know how to discover it as a single component in the psyche. He may go on thinking like most human beings that his analytical ability is an indistinguishable part of his mind or his very self.

The attack of thoughts upon a yogi who is doing kundalini practice, or meditation or some other related discipline, must be dealt with effectively if there is to be progress in the practice. A frontal assault like the one the Allies Powers committed at Normandy against the Nazis in World War 2, has to be done even if the yogi loses the battle and is blown back into the sea by the enemy.

Repeated defeats suffered by a yogi, gives the yogi firsthand experience about his lack of control of the psyche and lets him plan to increases his knowledge of the outlay of the components of consciousness. By being repeatedly defeated in his effort to directly manhandle the analytical functions, the yogi comes to the honest conclusion that he is a loser in his own psyche, a mere slave to his sensations and mental analytics and then there is some hope that a yogi will wake up to the reality that he is fighting an internal war for control of his own self.
